Today is RUOK? Day – a time to remind ourselves to check in with those around us. But what if you’re the one being asked? We know that mental fitness means not only offering help, but also having the courage and emotional muscle to seek it. It can be tough to open up—whether you fear being judged or don’t want to burden others. But when someone asks, “RUOK?”, take a moment to answer honestly. Reaching out is an act of strength. For support on how to start these important conversations, check out RUOK's How to Ask RUOK At Work Guide. It’s a valuable tool that helps break down barriers and gives you the confidence to ask—and answer—meaningfully. Together, we can build a future where no one has to worry alone. Building a mentally fit future.
About us
Gotcha4Life delivers innovative and inspirational preventative mental health campaigns, programs and services that build emotional agility and flexibility, social connectedness and help-seeking behaviours. Our vision is simple, a suicide-free future where no one worries alone. Known as ‘Australia’s mental fitness charity’, our mission is to inspire and enable all Australians to take action to build their mental fitness, so no one worries alone. We define mental fitness as our capacity to cope and adapt to life’s challenges. We believe that the more mentally fit you feel, the better you are able to respond to the inevitable peaks and troughs of life and manage challenging emotions when they arise. Our Engage – Educate - Empower - Maintain model inspires and enables individuals to learn how to have healthier conversations with their loved ones, proactively build their mental fitness and normalise talking about emotions. Our workshops, presentations and resources establish a new common language around Mental Fitness, Emotional Muscle and Meaningful Mateship in a way that builds social connectedness within a community. Our model is underlined by the promotion of help-seeking behaviour with peers and family members as well as clinical and crisis services when appropriate. Each component of our unique model has been designed to offer a different way into the mental fitness conversation so it is accessible to all people from all backgrounds and experiences. Gotcha4Life collaborates with several partners for appropriate referral pathways including Lifeline, headspace and local community mental health providers.

What if no one ever had to navigate their darkest moments alone? This weekend, thousands of rowers across the country came together for the annual Gotcha4Life 24 Hour Row, united by a shared purpose: building a mentally fit future. The energy across nearly 70 locations was electric! Corporate teams, schools, Surf Life Saving Clubs, Rowing Teams and Gyms... all pushing each other forward, all connected via Zoom to inspire and support one another. It was a powerful reminder of the strength that comes from being connected to your community. Every stroke made a difference, raising crucial funds to equip people with the tools to speak up, reach out, and connect. We rowed through the night and into the early morning for the 9 Australians lost to suicide each day - driven by a vision of a future where mental fitness is a priority, and no one has to face life’s toughest moments alone. Our tanks are empty, but our hearts are full. And we can't wait to do it all again next year. "Without Gus Worland, I wouldn’t be this side of the dirt. I was working in a pretty toxic environment. It was 2017. I was in Perth, but I would download the Triple M Sydney Grill Team every morning and listen to it in the car. Gus talked about his Man Up doco coming out. I watched it, and realised everything I was feeling was normal. Everything I was feeling was the same thing every other bloke goes through. But we all bottle it up and hold onto it. We don’t talk to our partners, our kids, our peers about it. That was eye-opening. That’s when I realised I could make a change. That’s what got the ball rolling for me. In 2019, I was spiraling again, so I went back and watched Man Up again and went through all the Gotcha4Life stuff. I sat down with my wife, and I opened up. I sat down with my kids, and I opened up. That’s what moved us from WA to Brisbane. That’s what got us back on track. I need to chase endorphins. My endorphin chase is the gym. It gets me up every day. It keeps my mind clear, the head noise quiet. We’ve got to stay connected. I did a workshop where Gus got us to send an SMS telling someone ‘I love you, I miss you, I’ll see you soon'. I hadn’t spoken to my best mate in over a year. I sent my SMS. We spent a Saturday together, we surfed, went for lunch, and rekindled our relationship. My message to other blokes is simple. Everyone is in the same boat. So many blokes don’t realise that, because they don’t talk about it. Someone else has gone through this, someone else knows what you’re feeling. Talk to them about it. I’m here because of Gus. He changed my life. He saved it.” He was brave to open up and start a life-changing, sometimes life-saving, conversation. These are the skills we teach in every workshop. That’s why we do what we do, and that’s why we row continuously in the 24 Hour Row, coming up 7-8th September. So that vital funds can be raised to give more people the chance to attend one of these workshops and learn to reach out and connect more deeply. Sign up here : https://bit.ly/3xO6eNi If you or someone you know needs help, please remember that you can connect with a mental health professional for confidential 1-on-1 support and advice by calling Beyond Blue on 1300 22 4636 at any time, or visit beyondblue.org.au. If someone you care about is experiencing emotional distress, please contact Lifeline who are there to listen and support you, 24 hours a day on 13 11 14. If someone’s life is in danger, call 000. How many emotions have you felt today? Can you name them? Generally speaking, our emotional vocabulary is pretty limited. Building emotional literacy and emotional adaptability is one of the foundational outcomes that underpin our work. We call this building emotional muscle. Our partners for over 7 years, TOMORROW MAN and TOMORROW WOMAN create safe spaces in their workshops, supporting high school students to flex their emotional muscles. Their workshops challenge outdated stereotypes about what it means to be a man or a woman - and inspire new conversations about what it means to look after yourself and the people you love.
Ever feel like your emotions are bubbling away under the surface but you can't quite put them into words? You're not alone. . On average, most people struggle to name more than three emotions: mad, sad, and glad. . Being able to name and understand our emotions, particularly those that society deems as the 'negative' ones, can help us get a grasp on them and know how to manage them. . How many emotions can you name? And what ones do you feel like you struggle to express the most? . . #TomorrowMan #TomorrowManAustralia #ChallengeTheStereotype #RaisingBoys #EmotionalLiteracy #LiveBeyondTheStereotype #MensMentalHealth #MensHealth #MensHealthWeek #HealthyMasculinity
