Delivering excellence in healthcare for the Gold Coast

About us

Gold Coast Health provides public sector health care in hospital and community settings across the expanding Gold Coast region. Located in the lower south-east corner of the state of Queensland, the Gold Coast has traditionally been one of Australia's leading leisure destinations. It is increasingly a place people are choosing to call home. Services include all major adult specialties as well as paediatrics. Chronic disease management is a key focus in our hospital and community care environments. Gold Coast Health is working closely with health partners such as general practitioners to develop seamless support networks for patients and their families. Gold Coast Health is now training more medical students than any other hospital in Australia. We continue to work with education providers such as Griffith University and Bond University on the Gold Coast, and University of Queensland in Brisbane to train a future health workforce. Training for all health professions including medical, nursing, allied and other support services are undertaken at Gold Coast. The Queensland Government has recently invested over $2 billion in health infrastructure across the Gold Coast to meet the needs of our increasing population. This includes the opening of the new Gold Coast University Hospital (GCUH) and the expansion of services at Robina Hospital. The Gold Coast Hospital Foundation, based at the Gold Coast hospital are dedicated to fundraising to support Gold Coast Health research and education activities.

  • Gold Coast Health's Head to Health Kids (H2HK) Service is now operating on the Gold Coast and is 'filling a gap for vulnerable families', according to Team Leader Kylie Hook. ❤️ The service focuses on supporting consumers under 12 years of age and their families. "We provide brief intervention, and we try to assist consumers and their families to manage their current situation," Kylie said. "We have four clinic spaces on the Gold Coast, but we are now extending our services into schools across the Gold Coast." Schools can refer children into the service, and they either attend a school clinic or a nearby clinic. "We have our largest clinic at Gainsborough State School, and other clinics located within the Hospital and Health Service at Southport, Upper Coomera and Robina Health Precinct." "We look at the challenges children are experiencing, what families have tried, what they haven't tried, where they want to be, and then we work out a plan to get there,” Kylie said. Kylie was instrumental in setting up the multidisciplinary team members, which range from social workers, psychology, OT, lived experience peer workers, speech pathology, nursing, psychiatry and paediatric registrars and access to psychiatrists and paediatricians. "Working on H2HK has been the highlight of my career to date," Kylie said. "To be able to work with a team who is as passionate as I am, and to fill this need in the community, is a real privilege." #AlwaysCare #H2HK #Helpingfamilies

  • Welcome our new crew of school-based trainees! 👋 We're super excited to have more than 40 new faces join us as school based and Deadly Start trainees in the coming year. 🎉 Right from their first week, they've breezed through their workplace orientation, got to know their supervisors, shared stories around a yarning circle, and have already become integral parts of their respective teams. 🏢 One of our trainees Charlotte, who has always been drawn towards the health sector, said, “I’m looking forward to every day bringing me opportunities to learn and to make a difference in people’s lives." 🙂 Our trainees are gaining valuable experience while studying and working in both clinical and non-clinical areas. Succeeding in the program helps them land work opportunities or plan further studies within Gold Coast Health's diverse career options, and it also aligns perfectly with our goal of nurturing talent. 🎓 Curious about a career at Gold Coast Health? • When we asked Occupational Therapist, Angela Terreros, to tell us about herself, she made a point of telling us about other Gold Coast Health staff too. ❤️ Angela spoke passionately about colleagues who have gone out of their way to make her feel welcome, to teach her new skills, and have been patient with her. Despite her humble nature, Angela's own story is nothing short of impressive. 💪 A few years ago, Angela packed up her life in Colombia and moved across the globe, before settling in Australia. 🌏 For the last 18 months, Angela has been a valued Occupational Therapist at Robina Hospital, currently working in the Palliative Care Unit. "Having moved countries, I've had to overcome many barriers, but that is what has made me stronger and more resilient," Angela said. "That is something that I can pass onto my patients when I'm helping them, and that's the rewarding part." "I feel grateful to work here for so many reasons. Learning is my biggest passion - I have so many opportunities here and I have always tried my best," she said. Angela was recently recognised for her emerging skills, receiving the 'Early Career Award' at the recent Allied Health Awards. 🏆 Congratulations Angela and thank you for sharing your kindness and talents with the Gold Coast community! ❤️ #AlwaysCare #AlliedHealth #Congratulations #StaffAchievement #ThankYou

  • If you ever need proof of the endless opportunities available to Occupational Therapists (OT), look no further than Jess Dawber. 👋 An OT for the last 20 years, there is hardly a corner of the hospital Jess hasn't touched. From emergency to trauma, rehabilitation and the palliative care ward to name a few, Jess has shared her skills far and wide. 🤗 Working in both clinical practice and in project management, Jess' most recent role is the Brain and Spinal Cord Injury (BaSCI) Principal Project Officer. "I started working on a related project in 2018. Since then, there have been many meetings, lots of planning and data analysis, but to see that turn into brand new services that are helping people has been very rewarding," Jess said. "Previously, Gold Coasters needed to travel to Brisbane for some of these services. Now, they can access it close to home, which is something I'm really passionate about," she said. We are so lucky to have Jess on the team, advocating for our community and improving our services! ⭐ You can find out more about the BaSCI Project here 👉 https://bit.ly/3MZfuCv #AlwaysCare #BrainandSpinalCordInjury #BaSCI #OccupationalTherapy

  • Nurse Unit Manager Corina Gallagher, is managing the set-up of a new overnight ward at Varsity Lakes Day Hospital. It’s the second time Corina, a surgical nurse with 14 years’ experience at Gold Coast Health, has opened a 23-hour ward at Gold Coast Health – she did the same at Robina Hospital just three years ago. “It’s exciting to be a part of bringing new inpatient beds that will make a difference to the health,” Corina says. “I’m really enjoying building this new team. I enjoyed the challenge at Robina and now a different opportunity to create a new overnight model at Varsity. I’m looking forward to welcoming our first patients.” The new 12-bed ward will accept carefully selected, low-risk patients and is scheduled to open soon! It adds to a rapidly growing facility, which recently celebrated reaching 1,000 cases per month. Corina says staff from across the health service have worked successfully to bring the new ward to completion, including nursing directors, the project and education teams, clinical working groups and operational staff. “There have been so many people from different departments who have worked together to make sure we have well thought out policies and procedures in place and an experienced team to deliver safe, high-quality patient care.” #AlwaysCare #Excellence #FutureValue

  • Lights. Camera. Action. 🎬 From snakebites to compound fractures, Gold Coast Health staff set the scene of your favourite medical drama at the Rural Fire Services annual training exercise. ⛑️ Last month, 11 Gold Coast University Hospital nurses turned their ordinary Saturday into a mass casualty simulation to support Rural Fire Service Queensland. The team facilitated a first aid mass casualty scenario, aimed at preparing more than 150 volunteer firefighters for possible emergencies they may face. 🚒🧯 Our staff were on hand to ensure the safety of everyone involved, offering feedback, advice, and education, while keeping a watchful eye on how the firefighters were performing. Trauma Service Nurse Navigator, Matt Scott, supported this year’s Rural Fire Service annual training day. Matt and Associate Nurse Educator Simulation Services, Jack Matulich, put their FX makeup skills to the test, crafting realistic and animated wounds and injuries, from amputated arms, burns, head injuries, snake bikes, to compound fractures. 🎨🖌️ “It was a great opportunity for our staff to give back to our much-appreciated Rural Fire Service volunteers and local communities,” Matt said. Assistant Director of Nursing, Professional Practice and Magnet Program Director Samantha Clayton commended Matt and the team for their volunteering efforts. “This is a great example of Gold Coast Health supporting our local community and our staff who are dedicated to helping others,” she said. #AlwaysCare #Preparedness #RFS #TrainingExercise
