Last week, we attended and sponsored the welcome dinner at the 2024 International Breast Cancer Conference in Leura, Blue Mountains. It was an engaging and informative multidisciplinary breast cancer event, featuring some incredible local and international speakers, including a few of our own amazing doctors. A shout out to A/Prof Tim wang who presented on 'Palliation in Breast Care', A/Prof Gillian Lamoury who presented twice on 'Refinement of RT fields' and 'Is there still a role for reverse sequencing', and A/Prof Michael Ng who presented on 'Dissecting B51- does it change practice in 2024'. yvonne zissiadis, Nicola Forsyth and Julia Schulz, along with Sarah Wise from UTS and the Perth Specialist Breast Care surgeons, also presented a poster on: "Bundling and patient navigation in early-stage breast cancer care –interim findings of a 100-patient pilot study. Thanks to Marie Burke OAM for your welcome address at the conference dinner. To all our doctors, we're sure all of your talks were well received and your insights appreciated! Lastly, a big thanks to Samantha Redfearn and Moe Hallani for supporting this event onsite. #internationalbreastcancerconference2024 #designingbettercare

A fantastic joint initiative from La Roche-Posay Laboratoire Dermatologique and GenesisCare! This week our Campbeltown centre hosted a skin education evening for nurses in the Macarthur region. The event was specifically tailored for local nurses, providing invaluable insights into advancements in oncology and the prevention and treatment of skin toxicity associated with cancer therapy. It was a great opportunity for nurses to enhance their understanding of oncology treatments and guidelines for managing skin toxicities as well as improve their practice. Thanks to our expert panel who gave their time and expertise on the evening: 👨⚕️ Dr. Michael Cardoso Radiation Oncologist and Site Director of GenesisCare 👨⚕️ Professor Pablo Fernández-Peñas, Dermatologist and Head of the Department of Dermatology at Westmead Hospital 👩⚕️ Dr. Jessica Smith, Medical Oncologist with a keen interest in clinical trials Finally - a big thank you to all the local nurses who attended and helped make this event a success! We look forward to offering more educational opportunities tailored to your needs in the future. #designingbettercare #cancercare

Stereotactic Radiation Therapy (SRT) has gained significant media attention over the past few years due to advances in its precision and effectiveness. SRT and SABR (Stereotactic Ablative Radiation Therapy), a specialised form of SRT, specifically target tumours with high doses of radiation therapy, while limiting the dose to surrounding healthy organs, minimising the risks of side effects (1,2). Meet Mike Smith, our Network and Telecom Manager. Mike joined the GenesisCare family 13 years ago and has been an integral part of our growth and innovation. When speaking to Mike, he said it’s hard to pinpoint one career highlight however mentioned being involved in new sites and acquisitions is something he really enjoys. In particular, he recalls that during the opening of the Wide Bay centres, at Bundaberg and Fraser Coast, there was a real sense of team comradery to get these sites open in record time. Recently, Mike had to face his own cancer journey and has since joined the GenesisCare Consumer Representative Panel. This has enabled him to give invaluable insights from a patient perspective. September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, and Mike is committed to shedding light on prostate cancer in the hope that it is not perceived as only an “old man’s disease” and that all men prioritise regular screenings, and educating themselves, plus friends and family about risk factors. Mike is a motorbike enthusiast, proud father of three daughters, a volunteer surf life saver at Maroubra, and due to his involvement in our new centre’s, claims to know more about concrete density and tolerance levels than he ever thought he would need to know! #Humansofgenesiscare #prostatecancerawarenessmonth #prostatecancer #designingbettercare
