The Aspen Trader has arrived at GeelongPort after making her maiden voyage from Indonesia. To celebrate the monumental trip, GeelongPort's Operations Team Manager Ben Nicholson and Ports Victoria's Deputy Harbour Master Paul Rasmussen boarded the Aspen Trader and presented Captain Conrad S. Ferrier with a commemorative plaque. The Aspen Trader is 179 metres long and 30 metres wide, and it brought more than 25,000 tonnes of urea to GeelongPort on its maiden voyage. Thank you to Tony Brazenor and Mark Senjov from Wave Shipping Pty Ltd who helped coordinate this opportunity with Captain Conrad S. Ferrier. #MaidenVoyage #Shipping #Logisitics #Ports #Freight #Fertiliser

Through our partnership with Monash University and Deakin University, law students have an opportunity to get one of the coveted spots in the GeelongPort student internship program by our in-house law team. Selected law students gain valuable experience and insights into in-house legal counsel in the maritime industry. Elijah Rasic recently reflected on his practical legal placement. “I did not expect to learn so much about port operations and the industry in general. Having spent some time at GeelongPort I have had the opportunity to work on matters pertaining to a broad range of stakeholders. This included matters in relation to construction agreements, lease disputes and even more generally, competition issues.” “The maritime industry is at the intersection of so many different sectors, so it definitely provides for an interesting and dynamic work experience. It does not have to be a specific interest legally speaking as it provides ample opportunities to develop one's knowledge in many different areas while also giving the opportunity to understand how some of the most critical industries and infrastructure operate.” “It would be remiss of me not to mention how stunning the views are out of the office. Window seat desks take it to the next level at GeelongPort with stunning views out on the bay - which gives the best Melbourne offices a run for their money,” Elijah said. Being on the water’s edge of Corio Bay you might just see Burrunan dolphins swimming by. #MaritimeLaw #GeelongPort #LawInternship #LegalCareers

Earlier this year, GeelongPort reached out to our local Australian Men's Shed Association (AMSA) in Norlane to find out how we can support their members. The overwhelming request was to help them purchase a new timber saw featuring state-of-the-art safety technology. Some men seek out their local Men's Shed for a yarn and a cuppa, and some go there to work on a woodwork project or to connect with community. It's a place where older men can gather, chat and create in a safe and comfortable environment. Men's Sheds are also an important community initiative that are powerful in addressing the health and wellbeing of older men. The Geelong Community Men's Shed was established in 2003 and was the first Men’s Shed in the Geelong region. They now have a permanent home in Norlane and the support of a broader community of Men's Sheds across the region. We look forward to checking out the timber saw when it arrives and seeing new creations from the Geelong Community Men’s Shed participants. #BecauseWeLiveHereToo #Community #MensShed #MensHealth Samantha English

Before we settle in to watch the Matildas at the 2024 Paris Olympics, we are keen to congratulate our talented local footballers on their recent success at Football Victoria's Girls Cup!🥇 👏 Geelong's Under 12 and Under 13 Representative Country Championship teams competed at Football Victoria's Girls Cup in mid-July, sporting their GeelongPort uniforms once again. While it was a last-minute entry into the tournament, both teams saw success with the Under 13s walking away from the grand final as champions, and the Under 12s being narrowly beaten to finish runners-up. Well done all! GeelongPort is proud to support women's football in Geelong and we look forward to seeing this young group of superstars shine in coming years. ⭐ The next generation of football talent in Geelong is looking promising! #community #womenssport #womeninsport #becauseweliveheretoo #communitysupport

And then there were 12. Australia’s Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen MP has announced a further six feasibility licences for the Gippsland Offshore Wind Zone in Victoria: - Iberdrola Australia OW 2 Pty Ltd (Aurora Green) - Greater Gippsland 2 OWP Project Pty Ltd (Gippsland Dawn) BlueFloat Energy Australia - Navigator North Project Pty Ltd Origin Energy and RES - Ørsted Offshore Australia 1 Pty Ltd (Gippsland 02) - Kent Offshore Wind Pty Ltd RWE - Great Eastern Offshore Wind Farm Project Co Pty Ltd. Corio Generation Congratulations! These developers can now commence the detailed assessment work to determine feasibility, including environmental studies and management plans. Victoria's abundant offshore wind resources are among the world's best, and according to the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, these projects could generate 25 GW of offshore wind energy, which is more electricity than the entire state of Victoria generated last year. At GeelongPort, we see massive potential for Geelong as a renewables hub to support Victoria’s burgeoning clean energy sector. The port is progressing plans to develop 25 hectares of land for a purpose-built wind farm construction port to meet the unique needs of offshore wind developments. Learn more about our proposed renewables terminal here: https://lnkd.in/geZdzJMG This announcement is another exciting step forward for the offshore wind industry in Australia and Victoria. #offshorewind #renewablesindustry #renewables #netzero #windfarms #Victoria #logisitics #renewableenergy #ports

Our NAIDOC celebrations wrapped up with the wonderful Wadawurrung artist, Dr Deanne Gilson Members of the GeelongPort community and the port team heard from the inspiring artist who shared stories and the meaning behind her incredible creations, a modern take on ceremonial cloaks. Her incredible art captures the beauty of Country but also plays a deeper role in preserving and highlighting cultural practices and symbology, thereby awakening culture once again. The exclusive showing was made possible thanks to the National Wool Museum Geelong and indigenous inspired catering from The Gordon's Davidson restaurant. What a way to close out NAIDOC week. Thank you Dr Gilson and all who participated in the commitment towards Reconciliation. #NaidocWeek #Reconciliation #WadawurrungCountry #geelong #InnovateRAP Christine Couzens Stephanie Pickett Elias Anastasiou Samantha English Brett Winter Velina Genova Anna D'Arcy MSc MIEMA CEnv Paul Gregor Jayde Smith Images by Pam Hutchinson
