Progress in the Southern Ocean offshore wind zone ✅ Australia’s Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen MP has offered a preliminarily feasibility licence for a potential offshore wind farm in Southwest Victoria. Spinifex Offshore Wind Farm has been preliminarily offered a feasibility licence for a potential offshore wind farm to be developed in the Southern Ocean offshore wind zone by Alinta Energy and Parkwind, which is part of JERA Nex. Should the project go ahead, it could generate 1.2 GW of electricity, enough to supply around 10 per cent of Victoria’s current electricity needs and support hundreds of new, high-value jobs and a future made in regional Victoria. Next steps include further consultation with First Nations groups before Minister Bowen makes a final decision on the feasibility licence. At GeelongPort, we see massive potential for Geelong to support Victoria’s growing renewables industry in the Southern Ocean and Gippsland zones. We are planning to develop up to 25 hectares of land for a renewables terminal to facilitate the supply of wind farm equipment to Victoria’s offshore wind development zones. The natural advantages of GeelongPort’s site at Oyster Cove mean it has the required space and berth depth for a renewables terminal. Given the speed at which we can get our project up and running, we are well placed to help get this new industry off the ground, making our terminal a cornerstone of Victoria’s multi-port strategy. We look forward to working with both Federal and State Governments to achieve Australia’s offshore wind targets and unlock regional jobs and energy security across Victoria. #OffshoreWind #WindFarms #Renewables #CleanEnergy #SouthernOcean #Geelong #GeelongRenewablesTerminal #OffshoreWindVictoria

⚓ World Maritime Day ⚓ Today, we shine a light on the important role of the global maritime industry and what it means to 'Navigate the Future: Safety First'.   Did you know Australian ports are responsible for 99% of the country’s international trade by volume and contribute to our economic health, security and livelihoods?   With a legacy that stretches over 180 years, GeelongPort plays an important role connecting today to create tomorrow.   With eyes on the future, we invest in opportunities to drive the growth of our region - whether it's boosting tourism and freight connections or supporting our renewables industry.   In doing this, we never lose sight of safety. Natural advantages. Streamlined planning pathway. Opportunities for Geelong's north. These were the key topics today as Deputy PM Richard Marles and Member for Lara Ella George MP joined us to outline further details of GeelongPort's Renewables Terminal. Since July 2022 we have been refining our plans to develop up to 25 hectares of land for a renewables terminal to support Victoria’s offshore wind industry in the Gippsland and Southern Ocean zones. At an event convened by Committee for Geelong, our CEO Brett Winter highlighted the natural advantages of the Oyster Cove site and the speed at which we can get our project up and running. "We believe our new terminal can be a cornerstone of Victoria’s multi-port strategy. It will have the required space and berth depth and has been designed for a streamlined environmental approvals pathway to support the delivery of the project in late 2028 or early 2029, in line with the Victorian Government’s development targets," he explained. Deputy PM Marles said the Geelong Renewables Terminal would play an important role in driving the growth of renewable energy and boosting the Geelong region's economy. “Projects like the Geelong Renewables Terminal will be important as we work towards becoming a renewable energy superpower, contributing to Australia’s 2050 net zero emissions target and I am pleased to support this project. "This will see significant economic benefits for the wider Geelong region, with the project forecast to create more than 4,200 direct and indirect jobs for Victorians during construction and an additional 850 once operational.” GeelongPort is well placed to help get the offshore wind industry off the ground and we look forward to working with both Federal and State Governments to achieve Australia’s offshore wind targets. Thank you to all the Geelong region organisations and wind industry developers who joined us at today's event. #OffshoreWind #Renewables #CleanEnergy #Geelong #GeelongRenewablesTerminal #GeelongPort #OffshoreWindVictoria

Did you know? Boral Australia’s $170 million clinker grinding and cement storage facility at GeelongPort is able to grind about 1.3 million tonnes of clinker and slag a year for the company’s Victorian cement business.   Here are some key highlights of the Geelong facility: 📍 Located close to Lascelles Wharf to reduce local truck traffic. 📈 Capacity to grind 1.3 million tonnes annually of granulated blast furnace slag and clinker. ♻️ Reduced landfill waste through the use of slag from steel manufacturing as a substitute cement in concrete products. 💼 Providing direct and indirect job opportunities, boosting the Geelong economy. GeelongPort GM of Commercial, Elias Anastasiou, said the location of the world class operation at Lascelles Wharf had provided processing efficiencies and taken truck movements off Geelong roads.   “Boral was looking for a location with berth access, close proximity to critical road networks and rail infrastructure to efficiently support customers with high quality, locally produced cement,” Mr Anastasiou said.   “Clinker and slag are unloaded from ships and delivered to the site via covered belt conveyors situated on Lascelles Wharf, providing substantial discharge and processing efficiencies."   A critical element of the construction supply chain, Boral’s cement can be found in buildings of all types, including roads, bridges, tunnels, pathways, public spaces, walls, barriers and art installations.   Boral's investment in Geelong secures cement supply for Victoria, South Australia, and Tasmania for years to come. https://lnkd.in/gCpY_Gic   #Boral #GeelongPort #Geelong #Cement #ConstructionMaterials #EconomicBoost #Sustainability
