🙏🏾 Thank you, Ethnic Council of Shepparton and District Inc, for being such wonderful hosts and showing us all the vital work you do to support and strengthen the region's multicultural communities! ECCV was delighted to visit CEO Sam Atukorala and the whole ECSD team last week. Sam has been a community leader for many years, and generously introduced us to many other multicultural champions in Shepparton. It was fantastic to visit the Shepparton Moslem Mosque and meet with Imam Hysni M. as well as the Gurduara Sahib Temple, which serves the more than 200 Sikh families in the Shepparton region. The visit was a testament to the resilience and vibrancy of Victoria's regional multicultural communities. Diversity doesn't stop outside the Melbourne city limits. ECCV is committed to continue working with our regional ethnic councils to ensure migrant and refugee communities across the state are engaged and supported.

More than 100 people tuned into ECCV's presentation in partnership with Seniors Rights Victoria (SRV) this week on culturally appropriate responses to elder abuse. It was fantastic to share our knowledge and insights with such an engaged audience, keen to learn more about the prevalence of elder abuse in migrant and refugee communities, and how to respond to it in a culturally safe way. Thank you to the Centre for Cultural Diversity in Ageing for having us as part of their 2024-25 webinar series! A recording of our session with SRV will be available on the CCDA website shortly.

Our diversity is our strength! 💫 🫶🏾 ECCV Board Directors and staff members were delighted to attend the Victorian Multicultural Gala Dinner held in Geelong this Saturday. We commend Vivienne Nguyen and the Victorian Multicultural Commission for hosting the Gala outside metropolitan Melbourne this year for the first time ever. This is an important step to recognising just how multicultural Victoria is as a whole, including in our regional communities. The evening featured rousing speeches from Premier Jacinta Allan MP, Leader of the Opposition John Pesutto MP, Multicultural Affairs Minister Ingrid Stitt and Assistant Multicultural Affairs Minister Julian Hill MP as well as magnificent cultural performances. It was fantastic to celebrate and strengthen the bonds between our state's diverse communities with hundreds of multicultural leaders and champions, including many ECCV members and partners.

Can green spaces keep the brain healthy? New research from the National Ageing Research Institute (NARI) and Monash University shows they can. The study, in partnership with community-based organisations across the country, including ECCV, found that people who live in areas with lower rates of crime and better access/shorter distances to parks, had fewer dementia risk factors. ECCV was pleased to be involved in the important conversations at A Community Response to the Multicultural Framework Review at Monash University this week. Our Acting CEO Dianna Rice joined an outstanding lineup of speakers, with Dr. Hass Dellal AO chairing the discussions about the generational reform agenda needed for an Australia made up of many cultures, faiths and lived experiences.
