On 1 September 2024, the policy for the responsible use of AI in government comes into effect for most Australian Public Service agencies. Today we've released the standard for AI transparency statements. It establishes a consistent format and expectation for how agencies outline their approach to AI adoption to the public, which must be published within 6 months of the policy effect date and updated at least once a year. It joins the standard for accountable officials to help agencies fulfil the 2 priority actions of the policy. View the standard: https://lnkd.in/diavX2xW

We have published the policy for the responsible use of AI in government. Coming into effect 1 September 2024, the policy aims to build public trust by encouraging responsible choices across the APS through its use of AI. Transparency and accountability are key goals. Agencies need to identify accountable officials and publish a public transparency statement to plainly explain their use of AI. The policy will continue to adapt with ongoing evaluation of AI uses. The DTA will support agencies with standards and guidance, encouraging cross-government coordination and collaboration to integrate AI responsibly. We’re launching this in Beta, so we encourage users to provide feedback.
