Australia’s most diverse art fair, Sydney Contemporary, has returned to Carriageworks from 5 – 8 September 2024.    Supported proudly by Destination NSW, it showcases the best in contemporary and modern art. Singapore Airlines has been confirmed as Western Sydney International Airport’s first international carrier. The airport is on schedule to open in late 2026 and will serve as a catalyst for the region’s visitor economy, with capacity to welcome up to 10 million annual passengers a year. We are thrilled that Vivid Sydney 2024 artwork Barani has become a permanent part of the Australian National Maritime Museum’s First Nations programming.   Barani was projected onto the museum’s rooftop as part of the Southern Hemisphere’s largest multi-artform festival.   Vivid Sydney is owned, managed and produced by Destination NSW. The theme of the 2024 festival was Humanity, it aimed to foster connections, spark imagination and showcase the multitude of ways creativity enriches our lives. Barani uses First Nations wisdom to connect people more deeply with the world around us.   The artwork runs continuously in the museum’s Bamal Yarning Space. Destination NSW is partnering with Cricket Australia to secure international men’s and women’s cricket matches in Sydney over the next seven years, including the New Year’s Test Match.   The ‘Summer of Cricket in Sydney’ initiative will provide marketing and partnership support for the international men’s New Year’s Test Match, as well as women’s international Test matches, men’s and women’s One Day International matches and T20 International matches, ensuring a full calendar of international men’s and women’s cricket matches for Sydney each year until 2031.   The New Year’s Test is an event steeped in tradition for local, regional and international cricket fans who make the journey to Sydney each year to attend the event.   It has become more than just a cricket match, it’s the home of the Pink Test, which plays host to Jane McGrath Day, an important fundraising fixture for the McGrath Foundation to deliver more breast cancer nurses across Australia.   The landmark agreement with Cricket Australia will provide a significant boost to the NSW visitor economy, elevating Sydney’s position as the nation’s premier destination for major sporting events.   #feelnew #feelnsw #visitoreconomy #destinationnsw #feelnewsydney

More than 14,000 festivalgoers flocked to Outback NSW from 15-17 August for the Mundi Mundi Bash, with a record attendance for the sold-out event. Between performances by artists including James Reyne, Diesel, Tex Perkins and Bjorn Again, 7243 attendees set a new world record for the “Largest human image of a country” and raised $115,888 for Beyond Blue, there was also an attempt to break the record for “Largest Nutbush dance”, which raised $97,725 for the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia. Destination NSW has proudly supported Mundi Mundi Bash from its inception in 2022 to becoming the biggest music and camping festival hosted in Outback Australia and a bucket list experience on the NSW events calendar.   Major events like Mundi Mundi Bash are key to the vitality of our regional centres, attracting fans, performers and event staff who stay in our hotels, visit our attractions and spend locally. The Destination NSW Board met this week in Broken Hill, one of several board meetings held in regional NSW each year to facilitate engagement with local visitor economy stakeholders.    The two-day visit was an opportunity for the Board and the Destination NSW executive leadership team to learn more about the NSW Country and Outback region, which is a key contributor to the growth of NSW visitor economy, delivering $6.3 million of domestic visitor spend into the region every day. Destination NSW Chairman Sally Loane, CEO Steve Cox, Board members and the executive leadership team met with local visitor economy stakeholders during an event held at The Broken Hill Pub and visited local attractions including Bells Milk Bar, Pro Hart Gallery, the Palace Hotel, the Line of Lode Miner’s Memorial and the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia.   They also enjoyed a sunset visit to the Living Desert and Sculptures open-air gallery and viewed the region’s night sky during an Outback Astronomy experience.
