  • 16 Queensland businesses are sharing in nearly $270,000 to grow their capability and become internationally competitive thanks to the latest round of the Queensland Government’s $1.5 million Defence and Aerospace Industry Development (DAID) Fund. One of the recipients is Redlands’ Complete Wiring Harnesses, a leading supplier and manufacturer of high quality custom designed cables and equipment to a diverse range of industries. The funding will help them obtain the SAE AS 9100(D):2016 certification, which will allow the business to expand their offering within the defence industry and secure more opportunities for growth. They will be able to bring more manufacturing onshore and skill local Queenslanders to take on more jobs in the manufacturing sector. Says Matt Rabbitt, Managing Director of Complete Wiring Harnesses, “This funding will strengthen our ability to expand our offering within the defence industry, ensuring ongoing opportunities for our workforce.” The DAID fund is delivering on the Queensland Defence Industries and Aerospace 10-Year Roadmaps and Action Plans along with the Queensland Space Industry Strategy. It is designed to help small-to-medium sized businesses obtain internationally recognised certifications so they can compete more strongly in new and existing Australian and global defence, aerospace and space supply chains. • The Neville Bonner Bridge in Brisbane's inner-city is officially open today. Named in honour of Australia’s first Indigenous parliamentarian, the bridge will improve connectivity, accessibility and walkability, linking Queen’s Wharf Brisbane to South Bank and the cultural precinct. Over 10,000 commuters and visitors are predicted to cross each day easing road traffic congestion, improving ease of access to the precincts on both sides of the river and providing economic benefit to businesses. The pedestrian-only bridge is one way we are making our inner-city precincts better connected and accessible, unlocking more of our city to be explored and enjoyed. The Queensland Government is investing significantly in these precincts to ensure their legacy is enjoyed by residents and visitors for decades to come. William Street has also reopened to traffic today. Timelapse credit: Destination Brisbane Consortium

  • Did you know that the Queensland and Australian Governments are actively playing a part in recycling initiatives in regional and remote Queensland, as well as urban areas? Through the Regional and Remote Recycling Modernisation Fund, Community Enterprise Queensland (CEQ) launched a recycling initiative across 20 of its stores in remote communities in the Torres Strait Islands and Cape York Peninsula that will prevent supermarket cardboard and pallet wrap from ending up in the limited waste disposal facilities. It will achieve this by: 👉 Strategic placement of storage containers 👉 Preparing recyclable materials for weekly pickups 👉 Partnering with Sea Swift, a key project partner, to transport the recyclable materials to Cairns for distribution to recyclers and processing into useable products Find out more about Queensland's waste recovery activities and initiatives here: https://lnkd.in/gubW3iMk Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water
