We’re introducing a new category ‘Urgent Care’ for our health care services, to help navigate the health options available in Victoria. Our aim is to help reduce pressure on our emergency departments and ambulance services by providing alternative care services for people who need urgent health care now, but their condition is not life-threatening. The three main urgent care options available are: 🟠 Urgent Care Clinics (walk in, open late and on weekends) 🟠 Virtual Emergency Care (video call, 24/7) 🟠 Nurse-on-Call (on 1300 60 60 24) 24/7 These services will make it easier for Victorians to understand where they can seek free help faster when they need urgent medical care now, but their condition is not life threatening. Have you heard about Social Inclusion Action Groups? Social Inclusion Action Groups bring together community members and leaders to deliver activities that strengthen the wellbeing and resilience of local communities. Following the establishment of our initial groups in Frankston, Benalla, Mansfield, Wangaratta and Latrobe, we’re pleased to announce the establishment of five more groups in Brimbank City Council, City of Greater Geelong, City of Whittlesea, Mildura Rural City Council and Ballarat City Council. Social Inclusion Action Groups will respond to local needs with initiatives that support community connection and participation. Applications are now open for Undergraduate (entry-to-practice) Nursing and Midwifery Scholarships. These scholarships are available to eligible new Victorian domestic students enrolling in professional-entry nursing or midwifery courses for 2024. Eligible students will receive funding over four years, with a maximum amount of $16,500. This financial support can help offset costs such as course fees and clinical placements, making pursuing a career in healthcare more accessible. The final round of applications close on 11 September 2024. We are very pleased to announce the appointment of Associate Professor Sophie Adams as the Chief Psychiatrist of Victoria. Sophie has worked in the mental health sector across primary, public, private and tertiary settings for over 25 years, and has held senior leadership roles across the sector. She believes in putting people at the heart of her work to make a difference to the health of our communities. Within her role, Sophie will continue the oversight of quality and safety in Victoria’s mental health and wellbeing services and promote the rights of people receiving a mental health and wellbeing service.
