Here's some truckin' impressive news! Aileen Eccles, our Manager Regional Economic Development – North region has had a biosecurity response truck named in her honour by the Department of Primary Industries Victoria (DPI) for her long history working in biosecurity and exotic diseases. It’s like winning an academy award for your incredible work in emergency responses!🏆🚚 “Being honoured with a truck named after me is very humbling and I feel very honoured to have my life work acknowledged by my peers," Aileen shares. "From pioneering electronic tags to leading biosecurity responses, it’s been a journey filled with passion and dedication." Here’s a fun twist: another truck is named after Alan Ross, who once visited Aileen’s farm for brucellosis testing when she was just 16, a moment that shaped her career. 🎉 Read more about this story: https://brnw.ch/21wMgc4 #EmergencyResponse #CareerMilestones #DAF

How’s this for a sweet gig? 🍍😉 Our horticulturist Sam Wakefield works with growers to help support Queensland’s vibrant pineapple industry. “Pineapple consumption per capita is relatively low, which means the potential for industry growth is enormous,” Sam says. “We all need to eat more pineapple!” Despite being an early career scientist, Sam has accomplished a great deal including receiving the Russell Grigg Memorial Prize for the highest overall marks in horticulture courses. 🌟 “I later found out that Russell Grigg was one of the leading pineapple farmers in Wamuran, so my career in pineapples was meant to be!” Sam now works on the Pineapple Industry Development and Extension project to share best practice research and development with growers. #DAFCareers #passionandpurpose #peopleofdaf

Temperature is a critical driver of horticultural product quality, yield, seasonality and income potential. 🌽 If you are vegetable grower in Queensland, make sure you check out the Critical Temperature Thresholds (CTT) to help review, refine and improve planning and business decisions. The crop, location and historical climate data is combined with projected future temperature information and presented in easy-to-use graphs. For example, a local grower in Stanthorpe realised that, in coming years, he could potentially extend his growing season by at least a month. He could hire more full-time employees rather than trying to find seasonal workers for half a year. 👨🌾 The CTT project, funded by the Drought and Climate Adaptation Program, led by David Carey and Peter Deuter, has produced 13 detailed documents, now available: https://brnw.ch/21wM8bb #Climate #Horticulture #AgTech

Central Queensland growers and agronomists observed the impact of various urea incorporation methods on sorghum crops during a recent field day in Orion. Organised by our Grains Farm Business Resilience Program, the event showcased 5 urea treatments over 2 years. The results showed higher nitrogen uptake in continuous zero-till systems, than with strategic Kelly chain treatments. "Drilling urea at planting or broadcasting early in the fallow period reduced losses and improved crop uptake," our extension officer Dr Mohammad Ali says Our grains team regularly hosts Farm Business Resilience Program events on a range of topics. 📆 Check out our calendar for upcoming events in your area: https://brnw.ch/21wM5Xa #DroughtResilience #FarmBusinessResilienceProgram #FutureDroughtFund
