So.. You want to be a Pentester? How do I become a Pentester? Do I need a Certification? Why am I not getting offers? But I have a Bachelors/Masters degree? Personal advice: Starting out in security administration, network administration, network engineering, system administrator, or web-based application programming, always focusing on the security side of each discipline, will provide a good foundation for pen testing. While working in these roles you can seek certifications and practice hands on experience. Certification Pathway: Again this is personal advice based on people I have placed in entry-level roles. Certifications: CEH (won't get you a job, but is a stepping stone) eJPT OSCP PNPT CREST CRT Practice with platforms or bug bounties (Bugcrowd, HackerOne) PentesterLab Hack The Box Pentester Academy TryHackMe TCM Academy (TCM Security) Over the Wire Virtual Hacking Labs AttackForge®(Help keep yourself organised) OffSec Vulnmachines ippsec - Great video content Don't forget the importance of writing a good report. Feel free to leave your own pathway in the comments below. Finally - Stay active: Being active and recognised in cyber security disciplines, such as bug bounty programs, collecting open-source intelligence (OSINT) developing proprietary attack programs, will all get pentesters recognised among peer groups. Now.. if you are looking for OffSec Consultants and Pentesters CyberConnection has got you covered. If you are looking for a new role make sure to follow CyberConnection I have some exciting roles coming soon. #OffensiveSecurity #CyberSecurity #PenetrationTesting #EntryLevelCyber
