What a fantastic day in Albury yesterday presenting a second session for the Regional Safety , Health and Environment group (SHE) This amazing group supports best practice safety, health and environment within local organisations in the Albury Wodonga region. I had so many great chats with local managers, supervisors and business owners who all want to do whatever they can to improve mental health supports for their workforce and their commitment to this is really inspiring. My presentation again covered workplace stress and burnout, identification of psychosocial hazards , importance of Mental Health First Aid , tips on service navigation and referral and the basics of emotional intelligence for teams and leaders. If your organisation is aiming to improve your approach to psychosocial hazards, has an emerging health and safety group that is seeking to grow their skills in mental health support or if your staff require Mental Health First Aid or any of the other great courses on offer through Crucial Cognition Consulting please feel free to reach out to discuss your needs.

Today is World Mental Health Day. Each year on October 10 we all have the chance to put mental health in the spotlight to raise awareness and break down stigma. This year we have focussed on the meaningful connections in our lives, and why they are so important for good mental health. Mental health is an issue that touches each and every one of us in different ways, and World Mental Health Day reminds us that we should be connecting with loved ones, connecting with our community and colleagues, connecting with services and supports if needed - and most importantly - connecting back with ourselves for good mental health. #WMHD24 #MeaningfulConnectionsMatter

As a passionate and consistent lifelong learner & avid reader of Dr. Peterson's work, I was thrilled when the opportunity arose to study with Peterson Academy. Peterson Academy brings together some of the most prominent lecturers and educators from Harvard, Stanford, Columbia, and McGill. For those unfamiliar, it provides profound and practical knowledge in humanities, health, psychology, finance, fitness, theology, and philosophy. Relishing a challenge, I started my journey with the Intro to Nietzsche: How to Philosophize with a Hammer and have found the initial lecturers challenging and fascinating. It also shows how much of a direct influence Jung and Nietzsche had on Dr Petersons work. Highly recommended, and if anyone else has jumped in, I would love to know what courses you are taking. https://lnkd.in/gWb9ipSs

Earlier this year I posted about my journey in running and how it not only improves my mental and physical well-being , scratched my competitive itch and is amazing for meeting and getting to know new people and places, it also has some amazing parallels to leadership and self and team development. Yesterday's run, was the Sydney Marathon and a full Marathon is the longest I have run to date. I had a finish time in mind that I would have liked, but honestly was just hoping to finish injury free and happy. So was ecstatic that I smashed my goal time, finished strong and felt amazing afterwards and now that I can reflect the day after my most important takeaways for success are: - Enjoying the process: the hard parts, ups and downs and setbacks are all learning , and make the eventual completion of the task that much sweeter. - Don't be too hard on yourself: If you are stretching yourself in ways you haven't done before , be fair to yourself along the way and realize moments of doubt are natural. - Be equipped and prepared : have the right tools for the job, test them, become innately familiar with them so that they are second nature on the job. - Learn from other's wisdom: by taking time to listen to those who are masters in their field will open up new ways of thinking and approaching tasks. -Surround yourself with the best support crew: Try and surround yourself with people that drive you forward, who encourage and motivate you and who want to help contribute to things going well. All of these perspectives and attributes of success are mentioned or contained in my course Crucial Conversations which is aimed at emerging leaders and high performing teams and more info is available on the CCC website. https://lnkd.in/gbg_NbMs Aim Up everyone ! Got a feeling that someone you know or care about isn’t behaving as they normally would? Perhaps they seem out of sorts? More agitated or withdrawn? Or they’re just not themselves. Trust that gut instinct and act on it. Learn more about the signs and when it's time to ask R U OK? here. By starting a conversation and commenting on the changes you’ve noticed, you could help that family member, friend or workmate open up. If they say they are not OK, you can follow our conversation steps to show them they’re supported and help them find strategies to better manage the load. If they are OK, that person will know you’re someone who cares enough to ask.

Over 3000 Australians take their own lives each year and over 7 million Australians have been close to someone who has died by suicide or attempted suicide. Great strides have been taken recently in Australia and across the world with prevention, aftercare, and bereavement support initiatives along with people becoming far more proactive in looking for signs and symptoms that may be crucial in helping a friend ,colleague or loved one. But there is still so much more work to do , and as this year's theme reminds us " We all have a role to play" .

Mental Health First Aid International and Mental Health Australia Leaders Forum As a MHFA instructor with 14 years experience , MHFA Australia as an orgnanisation holds a special place in my heart as do its amazing courses which I have been so fortunate to train others in over the years and now form a large part of what I offer in Crucial Cognition Consulting. I was therefore very excited to visit the MHFA Australia head office in Melbourne as part of my National Instructor Reference Group Chair role , meet many of the amazing MHFA Australia staff and attend the MHFA International and Mental Health Australia leaders forum. The forum featured members of the USA national council for MH wellbeing who spoke about the recent efforts of establishing certified community mental health centers which cover most of the US and offer some great co morbidity approaches , not to mention ensuring that the US now has over 3.5 million people trained in MHFA!!! Representatives from Neami, MH Australia and Transforming Trauma Victoria also offered insights on ongoing supports for people with psychosocial needs outside the NDIS, the need to strike the balance between urgency in reform vs MH initiatives having time to learn and the ongoing need for best practice and evidence. Truly inspiring to be around so many MH leaders who are genuine in their attempts to ensure consistent change in the MH system and a valuable reminder of the role of MHFA in achieving this.
