#TipTuesday: Use our Visual Flight Rules Guide (VFRG) to help you plan and prepare for VFR flights anywhere in Australia. The VFRG explains relevant regulations in plain English, along with other useful guidance and practical information to assist VFR pilots. The guide provides references to the corresponding legislation so you can easily refer to the full Civil Aviation Safety Regulation (CASR) or Manual of Standards (MOS) which you are operating under. Guidance on flight crew licensing, aviation medicine, drug and alcohol management plans and testing, sport and recreational aircraft, balloons and hot air airships, and much more can be found in the guide. You can purchase your copy of the VFRG from the CASA online store, or download it for free from our website: https://lnkd.in/ddCNmNDb

Last week, CASA’s Executive Advisor Aviation Safety, Clarke McNamara and staff in the Perth office were the proud recipients of the Team Award at the annual Leadership, Excellence and Distinction Awards (L.E.A.D) held in Canberra. The L.E.A.D Awards highlight innovative, impactful and resourceful solutions implemented across the Australian Public Service, with the Team Award recognising and celebrating an original and effective diversity, equality and inclusion initiative or innovation at a team level. Clarke and the team were recognised for creating a whole of office environment where individuals are empowered and supported to be involved in a range of diversity and inclusion initiatives covering gender, people living with disability, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture. These actions help to create a strong work environment, team cohesion, and an environment where people can bring their authentic self to work each day. Scott Jacovou-Johnson, Diversity and Equality Team Leader at CASA accepted the award on the team’s behalf. ‘It is extremely rewarding that the Perth office has been recognised through the L.E.A.D awards,’ said Scott. ‘This team has shown initiative, drive, and resilience to move forward on their diversity journey and share their learnings with CASA’s WA-based team and the broader CASA community.’ CASA was also a finalist in the Organisational Strategy Award for our initiatives to educate employees on the importance of Acknowledgement of Country, and Scott was nominated for the Individual Award for his work to incorporate diversity and inclusion within CASA over the past 11 years. #FlashbackFriday: This week marks Virgin Australia's 24th year flying across the Australian skies. Commencing operations as Virgin Blue, the company found itself to be a major player in the Australian market after the collapse of Ansett Australia in 2001. Since then, the company rebranded and has grown to become the Virgin Australia we know today. Happy birthday VA! #aviaiton #safety #virginaustralia #casa

We recently celebrated Luke Zaccaria, the first pilot to pass the new Australian Operational Colour Vision Assessment (AOCVA). The new assessment, which was introduced last month, is an operational examination that allows pilots with a colour vision deficiency to demonstrate they can fly in all kinds of circumstances, particularly safety critical ones.
