It was incredible to see so many businesses and community members turn out to celebrate our finalists and winners at our Kingston Sustainable Business Awards on Wednesday evening 👏 Building on what our Kingston Business team established last year, the evening sparkled as Kingston City Hall was filled to capacity. The awards celebrate our Kingston Business community's exceptional contributions to sustainability and ethical practices. The event was a fantastic opportunity to network, connect and hear about the sustainable initiatives our local businesses have implemented. Six awards were presented, and the winners in each category were: → Not a Trace - Small and Medium Business Leadership → Casafico - Product Innovation and Technology → Soap Aid - Waste Reduction and Recycling Solutions → Emma Jae Custom Laser Designs - Diversity and Inclusion → Razi Pilli - Young Changemakers and Innovators → Caspak - Towards Net Zero Mayor Jenna Davey-Burns congratulated the winners for contributing to a more sustainable and innovative Kingston while boosting the local economy. This year, The Kingston Charitable Fund (a charitable fund account of the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation) provided over $72,828 to 11 charities that make a difference in our community, creating a stronger and more connected Kingston. Mayor Jenna Davey-Burns recently met with several grant recipients, including FareShare in Clayton South, Brainwave Bikes in Dingley and Matt’s Place in Chelsea. 🌿 FareShare will buy new seeds and cultivation equipment to continue their work growing fresh food and cooking healthy meals for the Kingston and broader community 🚲 The Brainwave Bikes program receives, recycles, refurbishes and retails more than 50 bikes per week, reducing landfill and providing employment opportunities for young people living with disabilities, assisting them to transition into mainstream employment 🍎 Matt’s Place community meals program provides free two-course meals to more than 177 people per week. Grant funding will assist this program to continue this community service as it has done for over 15 years. Congratulations to these organisations for making a difference in people’s lives. At Kingston, we're proud to have our first-ever all-female leadership team, which includes our Mayor Jenna Davey-Burns, Deputy Mayor Tracey Davies and even our Junior Mayor! 👏 Our upcoming council elections offer women a valuable opportunity to make positive changes and continue increasing the number of women in leadership positions. In preparation for the 2024 Victorian local government elections, Kingston hosted a women-focused candidate information session in partnership with Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV). This session empowered potential candidates with information, resources, and programs that support women in council roles. If you missed this, MAV is delivering several additional information sessions for the community and prospective candidates, available both in-person and online. These sessions provide valuable information, resources, and support programs to empower women in council roles. As we approach the 2024 Victorian local government elections, let’s encourage more women to enter local government as councillors - increasing female leadership and continuing to represent our community at the local level 🤝 Council elections will be held by post in October 2024. We are thrilled to announce that Kingston is now a Silver Partner of Kinaway-The Victorian Aboriginal Chamber of Commerce 👏 Last week, some of our Procurement and Business team, along with our Reconciliation Lead, attended Kinaway's ‘Deadly in Melbourne First Nations Business Expo'.   It was a huge day of mingling and networking.
