Our CEO, Ali Wastie, was honoured to be presenting a keynote at the Women in Leadership Summit by The Hatchery this morning, part of a fantastic schedule including the Hon. Julia Gillard AC and the Rt. Hon. Helen Clark. Ali spoke about the City of Greater Geelong's vision to be Australia's best and highest performing local government authority to work for. Reflecting on the importance of authenticity, honesty and transparency, Ali shared that the greatest challenge she's focused on since starting in the role a year ago is rebuilding trust with community. "We’ve had more commissioners and monitors than most, and there’s been a long history of upheaval. But that history doesn’t define us. Instead, it motivates us to do better, to be better." "At the City of Greater Geelong, we’re committed to being the best, not just for the sake of it, but because we believe in the potential of our people and our community." "We’re on the right track, and we’re committed to staying the course."

Are you interested in switching from gas to an all-electric home? Looking to lower energy bills? Reduce your emissions? Don’t know where to start? Find out everything you need to know in the Electric Homes program. Back this August, the program is delivered by Geelong Sustainability, a not-for-profit community organisation, and funded through our Climate Change Partnership Grants. An all-electric home replaces gas powered devices with modern efficient electric versions to increase your home comfort while making your home more energy efficient. There’s even more available than last year, including home insulation, draught proofing, induction cooktop installation and home energy audits. Come along to an information session and hear from experts who will walk you through the entire process. The Electric Homes Program is open to Greater Geelong residents and runs from Wednesday 28 August to Wednesday 30 October 2024. This free launch event will be held at Geelong West Town Hall on Wednesday 28 August 2024 from 5:45pm to 7:00pm. We’re celebrating the 30,000th attendee of the Geelong Small Business Festival since it began 14 years ago. This exciting milestone clicked over yesterday when Christopher Bogacki attended the ‘Unleashing Reels, YouTube Shorts and TikTok for Social Media Success’ by Video Vault at Wurriki Nyal, the home of the Geelong Small Business Festival. Christopher was presented with a ‘golden ticket’ and extensive prize pack, including a behind the scenes experience at the Meredith Dairy farm not available to the public, where he’ll learn about the process to make their delicious goat’s cheese, discover their sustainability practices and meet the farm animals. Tell us your highlights from the festival for a chance to amazing prizes, including a grand prize from Quest Geelong Central and many more 👉 geelong.link/GSBFComp The festival is presented in partnership with the Geelong Chamber of Commerce. 📷: Geelong Chamber of Commerce CEO Jeremy Crawford, Christoper Bogacki, Tennille Bradley-Ow – Executive Director Placemaking and Julie Cameron, founder of Meredith Dairy

Our road network is extensive, with over 2,040 kilometres of sealed streets. That means there’s always lots of maintenance to perform, and our crews are out repairing hundreds of potholes every month. The biggest contributor to road issues is rain – water seeps through a small hole or crack in the asphalt and then causes the foundation to weaken and shift, leading to potholes. We fixed 5,814 potholes in the 2023/2024 financial year. If you have a road issue that needs addressing, first check that it is a City of Greater Geelong road – roads in our municipality are also managed by VicRoads and Rural Roads Victoria. You can check the responsible authority and report road issues for our team to follow up at 👉 https://lnkd.in/g7t-Ba33 📷: City staff Stuart, Luke and Carley completing road repairs in Lara last week
