"The playground that kids asked for" 🧒 🌲 🏉 What a great story by The Age on our recent community engagement showcasing proposed upgrades to the St Kilda Adventure Playground. Our team worked hard to deliver an inclusive and engaging process to consult with the primary users of the playground - children. This has included a range of interactive sessions and activities like sharing playground stories, ideas for farewelling old equipment, and fun workshops with the kids who use the playground to find out what they want to see for its future. We have also heard from Adventure Playground staff and carers of children on the functionality and accessibility of the playground. The ideas from the children and their families have been used to develop the concept design that will continue to make this playground a magical and memorable place for generations to come. The next round of community engagement on the project closes today, so find out more and provide your thoughts on this much love community space on our website.

Thank you to everyone who took time to have their say on the draft Council Plan and Budget (Year 4) documents. We are happy to announce, that the documents were successfully adopted by Council on 26 June 2024 and are now available online. Key changes include: ➡ An average rate increase of 2.75 per cent, which is in line with the rates cap, is lower than last year’s increase and is less than forecast inflation. ➡ The addition of three new differential rates categories – derelict land, vacant land and unactivated retail land – which will incur higher rates to encourage local development, with exemptions and appeals processes being offered. You can view our quick guide to the Year 4 changes here: https://lnkd.in/g2zWBYwQ Or access the full suite of documents on our Council Plan and Budget webpage.

This month we endorsed our Fair Access in Sport Policy and Action Plan to support women and girls’ participation in sport. This Policy aims to support positive outcomes for women and girls by building the capacity to identify and address the systemic causes of gender inequality within community sport and participation and create equitable use of our community sports infrastructure. Thanks to Change Our Game's Community Activations Grant, we were able to celebrate the launch with a breakfast panel discussion hosted by Change Our Game ambassador and Founder of @Good.Human, Rana Hussain. The panel featured local club leaders and professional athletes, including AFLW player and proboxer Tayla Harris, former WNBL and AFLW player and Women Sport Australia board member, Chantella Perera and local club leaders Megan Drysdale and Annette Maloney. The breakfast was well attended by clubs across the municipality and was a valuable and inspiring discussion for everyone who attended. We are very excited about the adoption of this policy and action plan as we work towards creating more equitable outcomes in sport across Port Phillip. You can find out more about the Policy here: https://lnkd.in/g4nUNfhd
