“We make no apologies for wanting to make City of Moreton Bay the most liveable city possible, with better design and housing options, more appealing streets and green spaces, and more room to live. We owe this to future generations and it’s too important not to get this right.” Mayor Peter Flannery The Better Housing Amendment was adopted by Council today, following approval by the State Government. The update to Council’s planning scheme will ensure sustainable and well-planned housing meets community expectations as our city grows. It reflects the State’s ShapingSEQ Plan with a commitment to efficient land use, diversity of product and more homes for Queenslanders while delivering better housing for residents. The amendment actively responds to current housing challenges, while also compelling good design, diverse housing options and better neighbourhoods. It targets five key planning policy areas raised by residents: ✅ Next Generation Neighbourhoods ✅ Off-Street car parking ✅ Secondary dwellings ✅ Student accommodation ✅ Warner Investigation Area boundary reduction The Better Housing Amendment will come into effect on 30 October 2024. We will continue to work with government and industry to ensure the best possible outcome for our residents. Read more here 👉 https://ow.ly/lGJl50Tf01i

We are leading the way with our innovative polycentric city model, balancing growth, sustainability, and community wellbeing. However, with our population set to hit one million in under 40 years, we face a major challenge—a significant shortfall in infrastructure investment from other levels of government. As one of the lowest-funded large councils in South East Queensland, we need urgent action to meet population targets and address the housing crisis. City of Moreton Bay is one of the lowest funded South East Queensland councils per capita. With one in ten Queensland voters living here, it’s time for political parties to realise that City of Moreton Bay Matters. 📣 In the lead up to the state election in October, we’re calling for our fair share of funding to future-proof our city. This week, Mayor Peter Flannery, who is also the Deputy Chair of Council of Mayors (SEQ), was at Parliament House speaking with all sides of politics and advocating for our fair share of Federal Government investment. Strengthening partnerships with the Federal Government is crucial for supporting the infrastructure, critical housing crisis and key projects our growing communities need. “SEQ is a great example of what can be done when three levels of governments work together,” Mayor Flannery emphasised. “The $1.8 billion SEQ City Deal partnership is delivering new tripartite investment, which is good for residents, good for our environment, and good for our local economy.” “But four years of funding does not fix decades of underinvestment that is further exacerbated by growth pressures. We’re keen to hear a strengthened long-term commitment from the Federal Government to growing the successful partnerships already underway across SEQ.”

We’re getting flood-ready Moreton Bay! We've been busy upgrading and installing new flood monitoring stations, as well as installing new automated road warning systems to improve flood resilience across the City. Following the 2022 floods, we've invested over half a million dollars upgrading 14 different stations, including two new monitoring stations at Upper Caboolture and Kallangur this week. These network upgrades will produce faster, more reliable data so we can provide timely flood warnings and advice to residents. We'd like to thank the Australian and Queensland Governments for supporting these projects through the Queensland Resilience and Risk Reduction Funding program.

Sustainability was on display in Moreton Bay last week with the opening of an exciting new business, Casafico, at Caboolture. The innovative company uses materials destined for landfill, like glass bottles and polystyrene, to manufacture building and construction products. We are proudly committed to fostering a business-friendly environment and promoting sustainability, and welcome Casafico to #TeamMoretonBay! Mayor Peter Flannery Ali King Mark Ryan
