We welcome the Federal and State Governments’ joint announcement to kick off the rebuild of Sunshine Station. This marks a significant step towards realising the community vision for Sunshine as outlined in our Sunshine Priority Precinct Vision 2050. It paves the way for future upgrades in Melbourne’s booming west, positioning Sunshine as an economic powerhouse of the west and one of the city’s satellite CBDs. Alongside the rebuild of Albion Station, and the development of the Sunshine Precinct and Albion Quarter, this project is expected to generate almost 30,000 new jobs and attract more than 40,000 new residents to the west, helping to address the critical need for housing. 📷 : An artist's impression of the entrance of Sunshine Station's Super Hub.

While we’re disappointed with the Federal Government’s decision to approve Melbourne Airport’s Third Runway without first having commissioned an independent health impact assessment, we're encouraged that our advocacy led to the Federal Government imposing important conditions to help protect communities from aircraft noise. We are eager to understand the details of the conditional approval before we can be comfortable with the decision, particularly as Melbourne Airport’s previous plans did not include adequate protection from the adverse impacts of aircraft noise on local communities. Our key priority is to make sure the Third Runway does not impact our community’s health, wellbeing and amenity of the community and we look forward to seeing the full details of the Minister’s conditional approval, and the Major Development Plan when it is released. We will continue to call for a seat at the table to discuss how our community should be engaged and listened to on this project. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gney6vSc

Our waste trucks are now equipped with advanced road sensors, and the difference has been significant. These sensors help us navigate more safely, ensuring that overhead cables stay intact and our streets remain clear and connected. This innovation is just one of the many ways we’re working to improve services and protect our community’s infrastructure. A win-win for everyone.

We’re excited that the Victorian Government has selected Brimbank for the establishment of a Social Inclusion Action Group. Social Inclusion Action Groups are locally driven, government-funded initiatives where community members and local leaders collaborate to boost social connection and participation, and improve mental health outcomes. Mental Health is a gold priority in Council’s Advocacy Plan and this news is particularly welcome as it fulfils one of our key requests of the Victorian Government in this area. Rain or shine, our school crossing supervisors stand as steadfast protectors of our children's journeys to and from school. They are the unsung heroes of the morning and afternoon rush, ensuring the safety of our pedestrians with unwavering dedication and a warm smile. This year, we had 8 school crossing supervisors nominated for a School Crossing Victoria award where one of our much-loved school crossing supervisors, Sally walked away with the Supervisor of the Year award for our region. Sally has been a supervisor for 20 years and her passion and commitment have made a huge impact on her school community. Congratulations Sally and our nominees for your dedication and hard work in keeping our community safe every day.
