Today, at the State Library of Queensland, we celebrated the final day of Children's Week with the family launch of our newest resource, 'The Big Book of Rights'. Co-created with over 200 Queensland children, authored by Dannika Patterson, and beautifully illustrated by Amanda Letcher, this engaging book empowers children to explore and understand their rights. Thank you to the Queensland Family and Child Commission (QFCC), Creative Outpost and all the children who helped bring this amazing resource to life. Today we launched #ChildrensWeek 2024 with over 200 participants—including representatives from 100+ child-focused organisations, delegates from five Queensland universities, and leaders from government departments and commissions across education, health, child safety, disability, mental health and youth justice. Most importantly, we were joined by children who contributed artwork for our newest resource, The Big Book of Rights! This incredible turnout reflects a shared passion and commitment to upholding children’s rights. Children's Week kicked off today with over 1,500 attendees at our Family Fun Day in North Brisbane. A huge thank you to our amazing team of volunteers, Ambassadors and community partners as well as the Queensland Family and Child Commission (QFCC) and Brisbane City Council who supported today's event. Hundreds of events will be taking place over the next week to celebrate children and their rights! #childrensweek2024 #childrensweek

As part of Queensland Child Protection Week, we partnered with 54 reasons to host a Family Fun Day in Richlands last week. The event was a great success, with over 400 people attending and participating in various activities alongside a range of community partners. It was a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of child protection and to emphasise that safeguarding children's rights is a shared responsibility for all of us. #qldchildprotectionweek #childrensrights #childprotection @Queensland Family and Child Commission (QFCC)

Today, as part of Queensland Child Protection Week we launched our new children's picture book 'I Am Me' at the State Library of Queensland with Lead Ambassador Luke Twyford. The book was developed in partnership with Aunty Sharron mirii Bell, Queensland children and illustrator Amanda Letcher (Creative Outpost). One of our dedicated Ambassadors, Susan Prior, recently presented at the Queensland Association for Gifted and Talented Conference. Her insightful presentation, titled “The Right to Develop Critical and Creative Thinking Skills,” was inspired by Article 29 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, which states, “You have the right to develop your personality and talents through education.” Congratulations, Susan, on your impactful presentation and for highlighting the important work Children's Rights Queensland is doing to educate and raise awareness about children's rights.
