This year’s #NationalCarersWeek (October 13-19) theme is ‘Millions of Reasons to Care’. With one in nine Australians being carers, having a carer-friendly workplace is good for business. Here’s some reasons why: • Reduced turnover costs • Increased productivity • Better service delivery • Lower stress and absenteeism • Attract top talent • Higher morale • Workforce resilience “Carers are ordinary people often doing extraordinary things for those they love and care for. To recognise, value and create flexibility for unpaid carers in the workforce is paramount,” says CCIWA Vice President Esme Bowen. “Carers often have amazing skills learned in their caring role that enhances their efficiencies and adds value to the business they work in. "Celebrating unpaid carers in National Carers Week each year in October is a small thank you for all they do for our community, while juggling the caring demands and their careers.” CCIWA is proud to share we are in the process of becoming a carer-accredited workplace. The first tranche of the Federal Government’s privacy reforms is before Parliament, with automated decision-making, overseas data flows and new “anti-doxxing” measures among the proposed changes. The landmark Privacy and other Legislation Amendment Bill 2024 also addresses children’s privacy and introduces a new statutory tort for serious invasions of privacy. “Businesses can stay ahead by obtaining a well-written privacy policy that is understandable, concise and aligned to business practices for collecting and storing personal information," says Cass Wright, CCIWA Legal Director Commercial Law.
