A huge congratulations to Congress Child & Youth Assessment and Therapeutic Service (CYATS) Team who were recently announced Northern Territory PHN's Fox Education and Consulting Primary Healthcare Team of the Year! The service is one of a number of innovative child health and development programs within Congress and is widely trusted and easily accessed by Aboriginal families and children of Alice Springs and surrounding communities. CYATS (pronouced “see-yats”) has assisted Aboriginal families not only to receive early detection of and intervention for their child’s neurodevelopmental condition, but also to enter a network of support services across health, education, social and family supports. I was lucky enough to spend some time last week Central Australian Aboriginal Congress Aboriginal Corporation to discuss new and exciting methods of healthcare delivery. Central Australian Aboriginal Congress provides holistic and culturally-appropriate health services to Aboriginal people living around Alice Springs, and are committed to improving health outcomes for all Aboriginal people. We were shown the cutting-edge work being undertaken here and I look forward to future collaborations and partnership opportunities. Thank you to CAAC for being such warm and wonderful hosts! As you can see, we also had a fabulous time exploring stunning Alice Springs (and enjoying their excellent weather!).

Chance to make a difference in a wonderful team

It’s National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day, Strong in Culture Stronger Together. Hundreds of organisations and communities around the country will host family days to celebrate today. Here’s a few pics from some early events in Ceduna and Alice Springs. Background: Historically August the 4th was the birth date assigned to babies removed under assimilation. Today we reclaim that date as an opportunity for our children to celebrate who they are and share their hopes, aspirations, families and culture with everyone.

"The RACGP has recently joined forces with the NT public health network to provide $10,000 grants to GP registrars who are interested in moving to the region. But Dr Sam Heard said it was increasingly tough competing with other jurisdictions such as Victoria, which had begun offering grants of up to $40,000 to those who complete GP training there. "The territory can't throw that money out," he said. Dr Heard is lobbying governments to do more to attract GPs to Central Australia, including accommodation and transport for doctors looking to "try out" the region, and greater incentives."

On NAATSIHWP National Day of Recognition for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers and Health Practitioners, we’re celebrating the remarkable achievements and evolution of our health worker and health practitioner workforce 🎉 This year’s theme is ‘More Men for Our Mob’, highlighting the essential contributions of our men to the health workforce and the Aboriginal Community Controlled Sectors’ commitment to increasing their participation. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men bring unique perspectives, strength, and resilience to healthcare, making a significant difference in the wellbeing of our communities. Their involvement helps to address culturally specific health issues, promotes strong male role models, and supports a holistic approach to community health. One of the ways we aim to boost this is through our First Nations Health Worker Traineeship Program (FNHWTP), which has already reached a major milestone with over 300 enrolments in the first 6 months. The enrolled mob are dedicated individuals learning the ropes of this vital work, building a stronger workforce and a healthier community.
