Central Adelaide Local Health Network acknowledges the Kaurna people as the traditional owners of the lands on which its sites are located. We respect their spiritual relationship with their country and that their cultural and heritage beliefs are still as important to living Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people today. And the winner is....Western Community Mental Health team! 🏆 There's nothing like a little competition to drive action -- which is exactly the point of CALHN's annual Reconciliation Cup. By taking the time to engage in shared activities like arts and crafts, learning language and puzzle making, our teams across CALHN are working towards a more meaningful, hands on approach to reconciliation that is then shared throughout the community. Western Community Mental Health team’s focus for Reconciliation Cup 2024 was collaborative paintings, which celebrated the talent and knowledge of young people. Congratulations!

Like a Hollywood movie, imagine if we could send an enforcer to track down and kill cancer cells. That's exactly what CAR-T cells are designed to do. For patients with cancer, CAR-T cells are made from cells of their own immune system and directed to attack cancer cells. At the RAH, Professor Michael Brown and Dr Tessa Gargett are developing CAR-T cells for hard-to-treat cancers of the brain, bowel and other organs. Time for a bit of myth-busting. A common misconception about researchers is that they’re white-coated introverts who tinker away in laboratories, disconnected from the real world. In reality researchers are diverse, interesting and passionate people who are highly motivated to make a real difference. Case in point is Associate Professor Liz Sutton, Director of Research at Central Adelaide Local Health Network. Liz didn't have a simple career trajectory, but it's her diverse background that makes her the unique, passionate research leader she is today – as you'll hear in the latest episode of CALHN's Our People podcast. Tune in on your next commute 👂 https://loom.ly/tR-DlE0

It’s time to talk about mental health -- so how about some soccer to 'get the ball rolling'? 😜 Mental Health Month, celebrated annually in October, aims to improve community awareness and understanding of mental health and wellbeing. This year’s theme, ‘It’s time to talk about mental health’, encourages all of us to talk more openly about how we’re feeling and inspire others to do the same. This week members of the CALHN Mental Health Clinical Program team gathered together with consumers to play soccer, enjoy a BBQ lunch and spend time in each other's company. Here's a few pics that capture a bit of the fun we had at Glenside Health Services. Who won? We all did. A variety of events are being held throughout October to help raise awareness and encourage South Australians to talk more openly about mental health.
