Data centres are now as critical as water: each day we generate millions of terabytes of data. From driving our car, to logging into our bank - we’re adding to data that needs to be stored somewhere. Data centres underpin everything we do as a society and we need to see them as a critical resource. In Partnership with Schneider Electric.

At CDC, we are committed to taking an industry leading approach to developing and operating data centres for resilience and adaptability because we know that data centres are not only essential for the digital economy, but also for the transition to a low-carbon future. “We live our commitment by offering all our customers net carbon zero electricity backed by certified renewable energy certificates and ensuring that we minimise our environmental footprint by not relying on water for our primary cooling, saving over five billion litres of water across our operational facilities,” says CEO and Founder Greg Boorer. “We also play an important role through predictable, steady and highly efficient power utilisation, which helps grid stability, especially when compared to the fluctuations of demand from other sectors”. Check out the video below to learn more about how we work to drive sustainable and secure outcomes across the industry by partnering to innovate, solve problems and promote progress. #CDC #ProgressSecured #Sustainability

Data centres have been in the news lately with a focus on water usage with many consuming millions of litres of clean drinking water each day as part of their cooling operations. With the explosion of AI workloads this is no longer viable if the data centre industry wishes to maintain their social licence to operate. The social, economic, productivity and security benefits of the latest technology, and the fourth Industrial Revolution, will only be realised in harmony with a sustainable approach to resource consumption. At CDC we have never consumed water in our own data centres’ cooling operations. This saves 5000 million litres of clean drinking water each year. A number that continues to grow in the positive direction. Great story promoted below following CDC being awarded a global sustainability impact award. Data centres can be part of the solution not the problem.

Accessing a major data centre in New Zealand requires pre-approved security clearance and an executive escort around the heavily secured site, as Markets with Madison Reidy found out when filming Infratil’s $10 billion data centre business. This is the first time anyone has been allowed to take cameras inside a major centre that stores sensitive online information and technology equipment for governments and businesses. “If you want to do anything in the modern economy, it almost has to come through this facility,” Infratil chief executive Jason Boyes infra told Markets with Madison at the Auckland data centre. “So that’s what’s driving our conviction.” Infratil owns about half of the Australian business CDC data centres, which has two sites in Auckland. The stake is now valued at close to $5b - more than 10 times the $400 million Infratil first invested in the business in 2016. Infratil just raised $1.1b on the New Zealand Stock Exchange to help fund CDC’s expansion in Australia and New Zealand. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/ggVk72d9
