Optimizing Pre-Match Strategy: New Research Reveals How Timing Impacts Elite Athlete Performance We’re excited to share groundbreaking research from Paul Travis, a valued member of our Customer Success team at Catapult, which has just been published in the International Journal of Performance Analysis in Sport. As part of his master’s in Applied Performance Analysis at Loughborough University, Paul conducted a study focused on an often-overlooked aspect of elite performance: the timing of pre-match meetings and their impact on player focus and preparation. 🔍 The Research Through a unique dataset gathered from Paul’s experience in the club world, the study surveyed 40 professional football players across 9 EFL (English Football League) clubs, alongside in-depth interviews with 6 players. The goal? To understand when athletes prefer to receive tactical information before a match and how this timing influences performance. 🎯 Implications for Coaches & Analysts This research brings fresh insights into how timing and delivery of pre-match meetings can influence athlete preparation, focus, and performance. It highlights critical factors like pre-performance anxiety and player routines, paving the way for more informed pre-match strategies in professional sports. We’re thrilled to see Paul’s dedication to advancing performance analysis recognized, and we’re proud to have him on the Catapult team. Interested in reading more?
