There I was, standing at what felt like a dot in my #health #career. Two years before completing my PhD, I had resigned from my senior clinical role to gain more flexibility for raising my young family. The world around me seemed to slow down, each day filled with the joys and challenges of family life. Yet, amidst the laughter and chaos, I felt the familiar pressure of the clock ticking in the background—a habit from years of striving for productivity. "You should be doing more," a voice inside me whispered. "You should know what's next." But the options were invisible, like shadows in the fog. I felt grateful for the pause, yet a sense of urgency gnawed at me. Was I wasting all those years of study, the experience, the reputation I had built, just to be at a standstill? During this isolating period, I kept these feelings to myself. I felt the pressure to know what came next, but I wasn't ready to admit to others that I didn't. I longed for a community like Humans in Healthcare, which I've since discovered, but at the time, it felt like I was navigating this uncertainty alone. From this period of stillness, I began to map out a decision-making framework to guide me toward aligned possibilities. I realised that while I hadn't stopped wanting to help and serve, I was clearer on what I didn't want next than what I did. It was a time of deciding, of embracing the discomfort of not knowing. The truth is, acknowledging the choices can be just as challenging as making them. When we know we want change, avoiding the choices gives us a reason to sidestep the hard decisions that come with it. Today, I offer 90-minute deep dives to help health professionals explore these hard decisions, gain clarity, and see their next steps. If you're standing at your own dot, unsure of the path forward, let's navigate it together. Because sometimes, the most profound transformations begin in the stillness. Link in the comments. We should normalise #career indecision. As #health professionals, we often start our careers with a clear vision of our path. However, as we progress, many of us encounter moments of career indecision—something that doesn't always feel safe to discuss at work. Career indecision in healthcare can stem from various sources: ➡ Evolving interests: As we gain experience, we may discover new areas of healthcare that captivate us, leading us to question our current specialisation. ➡ Work-life balance considerations: The demanding nature of healthcare careers can prompt us to re-evaluate our professional choices in light of personal life goals. ➡ Technological advancements: Changes in medical technology may lead us to consider how our roles might evolve or whether we need to pivot to stay relevant. ➡ Burnout and stress: The high-pressure environment of healthcare can sometimes lead to burnout, which can cause us to question our career choices. These factors can trigger emotional responses such as stress, anxiety, or regret, which may cloud our decision-making process. However, career indecision doesn't have to be a roadblock. It can be an opportunity for growth and self-reflection. Here are some strategies to navigate this: 🗝 Seek mentorship: Engage with experienced colleagues who can offer valuable insights and guidance. 🗝 Explore continuing education: Consider workshops or courses that align with your evolving interests. 🗝 Reflect on your values: Reassess what truly matters to you in your professional life. 🗝 Consult a career coach: Professionals focused on healthcare careers can provide targeted advice and support. 🗝 Invest in networking: Find a space and group of people that can guide, nurture and support clarity finding and next steps, e.g. Humans in Healthcare Instead of thinking that being unsure is a weakness, let's reframe career indecision as a normal part of professional growth. By approaching it with curiosity and openness, we can turn moments of uncertainty into opportunities for meaningful career development. Have you experienced career indecision in your healthcare journey? How did you navigate it? #healthcare #CareeCliniq #StreamAhead #careersupport Check out StreamAhead, a tool I designed just for health professionals to get clarity on the direction within healthcare you can steer your career. https://lnkd.in/gAUfJrZv

🔊 New career story! LinkedIn has always been a place where I have gained inspiration. I love seeing what other health professionals are doing with their expertise and interests. One of the first people I discovered and have been following for quite a while now who really resonated with me was Canadian nurse and author Sara Fung, MN, BSN, RN. So, I was very excited when Sara graciously said yes to being interviewed for Career Cliniq's weekly story. Sara Fung's career has taken her far from the beeping monitors and tiny patients of the NICU where she started. Today, she's more likely to be found behind a microphone, speaking or crafting resumes than changing dressings or checking vital signs. As I prepared to unpack 15 years of a nurse's career journey, I wondered what series of choices leads someone from the intensity of neonatal care to becoming an entrepreneur, author and podcaster. What inspires a nurse to dedicate herself to helping other nurses navigate their careers, finding fulfilling roles within a profession known for its challenges?
