Collaborating over the past 18 months to advance the use of Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UAS) on remote electricity transmission and distribution infrastructure, Carbonix and SA Power Networks (SAPN) have partnered to achieve an Australian breakthrough in aerial data capture capabilities! Having experienced the challenges of using manned aircraft to perform powerline inspections, SAPN understood the requirement for a safer, more eco-friendly and efficient method to conduct infrastructure assessments. The solution came in the form of Carbonix long-range UAS. Earlier this year, with the approval of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority, we conducted a 150km Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) flight which provided significant operational boosts - marking the start of efficient long-range UAS data capture at scale. 2023 was Canada’s most intense wildfire season ever, and 2024 is set to rival it. In anticipation of this potential danger, Carbonix drones are being deployed across the country to detect, prevent, and monitor wildfires. Our Volanti UAV offers increased safety and accessibility of remote environments, in comparison to crewed aircraft, enabling rapid deployment for our North American partners Exo Drone and ArgenTech Solutions, Inc. With the ability to conduct aerial surveys across rugged terrain, the Volanti is suited to detect destructive wildfires before they can spread and grow. "Our technology is doing a job that is usually done by firefighting crews on the ground or in helicopters, at huge expense, with environmental impact, and at significant risk to human life,” said Carbonix CEO Philip van der Burg when speaking to The Daily Telegraph this week. We're ecstatic to have been invited by UTS Aerospace Society, a group from the University of Technology Sydney, to attend their Aerospace Society Networking event. Hosted by UNSW Aerospace Society - AIAA Student Branch, the event presented the chance to engage with the Australian aerospace community and showcase our fleet of aircraft. On the night, we had the opportunity to demonstrate to university students interested in the field of aerial robotics and give them insight into what’s involved in aerospace design and manufacturing, implementation and usage. Hopefully, these insights will guide their future career choices – to perhaps one day, they’ll be working at Carbonix! We want to extend a big thank you to everyone involved in organising the evening and making it such a success. #aerospace #aviation #drones

We’re excited to announce that we recently became members of Austmine, Australia’s largest industry group for METS (mining equipment, tech, and services)! In addition to deepening our already strong ties to the mining industry, our new relationship also presents several exciting new commercial opportunities within the mining sector. Carbonix aircraft are already deployed across mining operations, including for surveying and mapping, monitoring and inspections, and pollution assessments. We're looking forward to collaborating with the Austmine network and exploring further innovative approaches to utilise our tech for the benefit of the industry. #dronesinmining #mets #miningtechnology

Another successful deployment of Carbonix aircraft, using surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities to combat wildfires in Canada. During emergency situations, particularly in remote or difficult to access areas, the ability to provide real-time information is critical. With slow cruising speeds, our aircraft are able to capture accurate and precise visuals, enabling support teams to act swiftly in such conditions. By partnering with Exo Drone to utilise our aircraft capabilities for environmental monitoring and inspections, we aim to prevent and reduce the impact of wildfires. #wildfires #wildfireprevention #bushfireprevention

As part of our ongoing partnership with the Australian Air Force Cadets, Carbonix recently attended the Air Force Cadets Careers Expo, held at their Royal Australian Air Force Richmond base. With over 700 young cadets in attendance, the event allowed us to provide the next generation wit h insights into UAV Air Force operations and remote piloting. They were also given opportunities to discover more about our business and understand the pathways that lead to a career within the industry. Defence is playing an increasingly important role in our business operations, and our ongoing collaborations and industry relationships only strengthen our ties within the sector. We look forward to hosting cadets at our Sydney-based workshop over the coming weeks! #australiandrones #airforcedrones #australianuav

With an increased focus on environmental considerations and a need to keep costs down, the mining industry is constantly searching for innovative solutions. One of the most effective examples of this is the utilisation of drones, as Dario Valenza, founder of Carbonix, details in his recent article with Austmine.  He provides a fascinating look at how one of Australia’s most important sectors is evolving and adapting to new technology. And with good reason; by 2040, it’s expected that adopting drones will save the industry a massive $2.4 billion.
