At 2 years of age, Harry was diagnosed with leukaemia. His family had no idea how rough the treatment would be and the impact it would have on the family unit. It was here that Camp Quality stepped into support their family. Harry’s family attended their first Family Camp and had so much fun! Before the camp, Harry couldn’t celebrate his birthday with a party because he was sick, and sadly he told his mum he had no friends. He was so excited to get the opportunity to meet some buddies at Camp and just be a kid again! It’s safe to say Harry had a ball and made many new friends 🙂 Harry's mum, Harriet, found the Family Camp "incredibly uplifting, and realise you’re not alone; there are other families there for the same reasons." Camp Quality’s Family Camps bring together families to laugh, create new memories, make new friends and share stories with other families that understand first-hand. September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month. Step up and go a little further out of your comfort zone by walking a few more kilometres in the Big Walk for Little Kids🚶♀ We need your help to support families like Harry’s. You can do this by lacing up and going in the distance 👟 ✨ It’s not too late to register – visit the link below. https://lnkd.in/gVJxZasM #BigWalkforLittleKids

Did you know it's Free Wills Week? A gift in your will could help the Camp Quality Puppets reach even more kids with our Cancer Education Program! The Camp Quality Puppets have been busy! The puppets have already made four trips to Tasmania this year; welcomed back each time with lots of smiles from the staff at Launceston General Hospital and Royal Hobart Hospital. On one recent visit, the team were excited to see Camp Quality’s new posters all over the wards! One nurse had this to say about their visit: “Thank you for today, there was lots of laughter and many very impressed children. We appreciate your efforts to make a difference to the families that use our service.” These additional trips have been made possible through the generosity of the late Mrs Anastercia Weeks who left Camp Quality a gift in her will. What an amazing legacy to have. If you would like information on including Camp Quality a gift in your will, please visit the link below: https://lnkd.in/g5eQhErG To learn more about how a gift in your will can help us continue to educate children, please contact Bev Smith at 02 9876 0546 or [email protected]. You can leave a lasting legacy of kindness.

Camp Quality's Employee Spotlight is on Carmen Zeng! Carmen was asked to temporarily hold the fort whilst her manager took extended leave, and she did so after only a short time in her role! Carmen's enthusiasm, commitment and ability meant our Creative Director was able to step away, feeling confident knowing that everything was under control. Thank-you Carmen for your dedication and commitment!

Alongside our partners Canteen Australia and Redkite we were delighted to be joined today by Minister for Health the Hon Mark Butler MP to launch the newly expanded Cancer Hub! Our collective vision for Cancer Hub is to make it easier for families impacted by cancer to access the support they need. Since our launch two years ago, we have helped around 4000 families with more than 19,000 support sessions. Thanks to the Australian Government’s funding commitment, we have two key focus areas for this next phase of Cancer Hub. Firstly – doubling our cancer navigation capacity in response to the overwhelming demand during the pilot phase. Secondly - strengthening our work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families through dedicated roles and culturally safe practice. Special thanks to Georgie Gardner for hosting today’s event, to our YARN Member Joel Matysek and to our incredible families who so generously shared their stories. “As a parent, I never thought it could be cancer,” says Eliza's mum, Lisa. When Eliza, an active four-year-old, developed a high temperature, her mum assumed an iron infusion would resolve it. But when a paediatric doctor asked Lisa if she had heard of leukaemia, everything changed. That night, Eliza was given a blood transfusion at Bathurst Hospital, and by morning, she was transported by ambulance to Westmead Children’s Hospital—a 2.5-hour drive. It was there that Eliza was officially diagnosed with cancer, and Lisa was told they wouldn’t be able to go home for six months. In an instant, their world was turned upside down. Every weekend, Eliza’s older sister Evelyn and their dad would make the drive from Bathurst to be together as a family. After eight months of treatment, the family finally returned home, but they had lost so much time together. Lisa learned about Camp Quality through her cousin, who signed them up. “It was my cousin’s doing, it was awesome to know other families were using this service too.” “We went to a Family Fun Day movie day in Orange, and Eliza met a little boy she knew from treatment in Sydney. It was great for her to see him and know he was doing well.” Lisa says it has been amazing to connect with other parents who truly understand what they've gone through. All going well, Eliza is nearing the end of her maintenance chemotherapy and will soon be able to stop taking medication every night. No matter where they live, Camp Quality is there for families like Eliza’s, bringing support and connection to regional towns after the challenges of cancer. It won’t be long before your steps can make a real difference for kids like Eliza. Our Big Walk for Little Kids kicks off on the 1st of September and marks the start of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Sign up to walk 50km, 100km, or even 150km to bring laughter, fun and positivity back into the lives of kids diagnosed with cancer. So, how far can you go to support these incredibly brave and inspiring little kids? Register today https://lnkd.in/gVJxZasM #LaughterIsTheBestMedicine #CampQuality
