Proudly owned by three Australian families, for six generations.

About us

Bulla Dairy Foods is one of Australia’s oldest family owned dairy companies. At Bulla, the same three families have been making dairy products in country Australia for six generations and export them all over the world. We make dairy products with care, craftsmanship and passion, like we've been doing for over 100 years. We make Bulla Cream in batches, the way we did in 1910. All Bulla Ice Cream is still made with fresh milk delivered daily. We continue to hand cut our Cottage Cheese, and our Frozen Yoghurt is made with Bulla probiotic yoghurt and real fruit. Bulla is more than just a company - everyone who works here is part of the family.

At Bulla, partnerships are paramount to the way we do business. We are proud of our longstanding relationship with ANZ, built on respect, trust, and support. ANZ has played a significant role in our journey over the past few decades. Recently, we collaborated with the ANZ team to help share this story—because telling stories of mutuality and loyalty in business matters. Founded in 1910, Bulla Dairy Foods began its journey when Thomas Sloan pioneered a new method of thickening cream. Now in its sixth generation of family ownership, Bulla is still owned by the same three founding families, with operations in Victoria’s verdant dairy country around Colac and Melbourne. For several decades, ANZ has supported Bulla in expanding into new markets, innovating with new products, and established new manufacturing facilities. As ANZ relationship manager Tony Fato outlines in this article, trust and ongoing investment in relationships are essential for fostering the growth of a company like Bulla. To honour and celebrate, our teams have been busy.... 💜 Wearing purple to celebrate the unique contributions of our LGBTQIA+ colleagues, parents and community members. 🏳️🌈 Sharing our favourite LGBTQIA+ culture from books, podcasts, films to places to visit. 🍰 Baking up a storm for our company-wide Bake Sale to raise funds for Wear It Purple who support schools, universities, Gender & Sexuality Alliances (GSAs) and youth organisations creating inclusive environments for rainbow young people. 📹 We joined a live streamed presentation hosted by Alicia Herrera a Pinnacle Foundation Sam Smith Scholarship recipient and final-year Bachelor of Communications (Media) student at RMIT University. Our fresh and fun cottage cheese campaign for Bulla Dairy Foods has been featured on Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC)'s Gruen! The panel discuss how brands often misunderstand communicating with Gen Z, and that Gen Z respond well to the weird and authentic side of the internet – a side often difficult for brands to nail. “Gran-fluencers” feel authentic and fun to Gen Z, which is why we built our Bulla campaign around the lovely and adorable Margaret, Bulla’s new “Chief Cottage Cheese Officer”. 👵 #TikTok #SocialMediaStrategy

Here at Bulla Family Dairy, we are a proudly Australian-owned business with a rich and longstanding heritage. In 2022, we celebrated 100 years of manufacturing in the regional Victorian town of Colac - a wonderful achievement for the whole Bulla family, which dates back 114 years across six generations. This extraordinary milestone brought together both past and present members of our tight-knit community; a true testament to the strong relationships we have built here at Bulla. We are looking forward to our ongoing commitment to the local Colac Community.

We are proud to celebrate the launch of our new manufacturing facility, Greenfield, in Colac. Last month, we broke ground on the project with a small launch event attended by key contributors to the project as well as local MPs. Our new Greenfield manufacturing site will boost our company’s capacity, capability, and efficiency. Designed to foster sustainable growth in the Colac region, our new Greenfield site will help ensure a thriving dairy industry for generations to come.

We're proud to partner with Monash University and their Engineering Co-Op program, helping to nurture our future leaders. The program is designed to provide real-world work experiences, including employing upcoming students and graduates to support our engineering department with projects. Now in our fourth year of partnership with Monash University, we recently welcomed Lily Peng, a fourth-year student engineer, to our factories in Mulgrave and Dandenong to learn and experience what the day-to-day workings of being an engineer at Bulla entail. Lily has been a fabulous addition to the Bulla team, contributing to site projects, day-to-day activities, and exemplifying our Bulla values as a team member. We were also thrilled to hear that Monash University has recognised Bulla as an invaluable partner in supporting engineering education within Victoria. Bulla’s Site Lead for Melbourne Operations Zeinoon Raydan says, “It is fantastic to support Monash Engineering students through this worthwhile and practical program. We have been so impressed to meet so many talented young professionals who are keen to kick start their future engineering careers!” A special shout-out to Bulla team members Mark Wilson and Eric Siew for their ongoing support in advocating for this vital initiative, and we look forward to welcoming more Monash students to participate in the program at Bulla.

Yesterday, Bulla team members participated in NAIDOC Week celebrations across all our sites, recognising and celebrating the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This year's theme was "Keep The Fire Burning - Blak, Loud and Proud." Our Colac team welcomed Sherry Johnstone from Eastern Maar and a traditional owner of the Keerray Woorrong peoples, who hosted a traditional smoking ceremony at our Connor Street site in Colac. She shared the significance of this ancient practice with our teams, who were able to join in and engage with Indigenous artefacts, hundreds of years old, on display following the ceremony. Across all Bulla sites, the teams also participated in a live-streamed virtual event with Tanya Hosch, Executive General Manager – Inclusion and Social Policy at the AFL. She facilitated a fascinating discussion covering topics including how we can increase awareness and understanding of Indigenous cultures, gain an enhanced appreciation for the resilience of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, and how to best advocate for justice, equality, and respect for Indigenous peoples. Our team shared of the day: “Today was incredible. It’s important for me to learn about the history and culture of the First Nations people of this land. Bulla celebrating this gives me a good opportunity to broaden my knowledge around the legacy of the Traditional Owners of the land.” “I really loved engaging with and learning about the artefacts on display and the stories and culture of our First Nations people. Getting to try some Indigenous ingredients and food I’ve never had before was also amazing and delicious!” #NAIDOC2024 #NAIDOCWeek

Last week was an amazing week for Bulla Dairy Foods in Singapore! We held our first Board meeting outside Australia in the company's 114 year history. That evening we had dinner with our Board and four of our key distibution partners from Singapore, Malysia, Hong Kong and Philippines. They, like Bulla, are family businesses and it was great to see the strength of the relationships between our organisations. Whilst here, we also worked the stand, sharing the Bulla brand at the FHA-Food & Beverage Trade Show. We've come away from this week with a huge sense of appreciation for all the effort that has gone on to establish our brand in these markets and with a clear view of the opportunity these markets offer to Bulla. Thank you so much to Sam Zhang, and team for all your efforts!
