    So many process plants make this mistake with their slurry piping system. It’s called leading edge wear. It happens when slurry is flowing from a larger ID to a smaller ID. The slurry wears through the liner at the flange faces, so you must rotate the pipe so it wears evenly or replace it. It might seem minor, but inconsistent internal diameters are one of the main types of wear in slurry piping. So, it’s worth taking the time to put systems in place to correct the IDs early. Here’s how you can do it: 1. Consider your fixed IDs – if there’s a valve or other instrumentation that isn’t practical or economical to change, match your piping to meet that ID. 2. Castable liners, such as polyurethane lined pipe, means you can vary the liner thickness to achieve the bore size you’re chasing. 3. Don’t forget your valves - generally, a conventional valve ID is designed to match the ID of standard thickness unlined pipe. If you’re using lined pipe, speak to your supplier about custom liners. In the long run, you’ll find that it saves you both operating and maintenance costs—so you’ll hit those production targets no problem.     Is dewatering holding up your operations? It shouldn’t. The dewatering team at a major Australian gold mine were under the pump to get water out of their pits so they could begin production. But their dewatering hoses were only lasting 3-6 months before tearing. It was causing delays – at huge cost – to their mining operation. Dewatering hoses are dragged across the pit floor’s rough surface, so need to be durable inside – and out. They chose Slurryflex flexible mining hose. It’s a high pressure rated hose with a tough outer layer, and the integrally built end connections provide extra resistance to tearing at the flanges. We also suggested simplifying the pump set-up to provide more clearance around the skids for easier pump maintenance. The Slurryflex hoses are now lasting more than 4 years. That’s at least an 8x longer wear life. It’s put an end to dewatering delays. They’re able to get in, get the water out, and have the pit ready to go. #gold #mineralprocessing #miningengineering

    Roy Hill’s maintenance team has eliminated their slurry pump piping maintenance with one simple change. - The team previously used two rubber-lined steel spools—a straight spool and a reducer—with a flexible coupling to connect the pump and adjoining pipework. This set-up amplified pump vibration and caused the pipes to misalign and leak. Slurry would build up underneath and make the plant floor slippery. The new arrangement uses a single Slurryflex CLX ceramic-lined mining hose reducer. It’s one piece instead of three. This one simple change to slurry pump pipework ticks all these boxes: ✅ Longer wear life ✅ Reduced install time ✅ Improved safety ✅ Reduced inventory Not only has it doubled the lifespan of the pipework around the pump, but it has dampened pump vibration and made pump maintenance much easier. #ironore #mineralprocessing #miningnews #processengineering

    Here's why the Roy Hill engineering team have stopped using rubber lined steel elbows in their desands plant. - In 2021, the team was looking for alternatives to rubber-lined steel elbows after years of frustration from misaligned, fast-wearing piping. They wanted pipework that would last longer and could withstand the coarse, highly turbulent iron ore slurry. We suggested ceramic-lined mining hose for this purpose. It offers strong abrasion resistance combined with the impact absorption and dispersion benefits of mining hose. The team decided on pre-formed Slurryflex CLX bends with tiles embedded 360° in the pipe. This is an excellent option for turbulent slurry applications because it provides wear resistance through the entire hose. Three years on, the hoses are still in place and going strong. That’s three years of no leaks, bandaging or lost production time. Stop making work for you and your team.     Here's how the reliability team at Ma‘aden Barrick Copper Company achieved 8x longer wear life on their ball mill feed line piping. - The team contacted us to see if we could help with high wear from abrasive slurry in their ball mill feed piping. Nothing they’d trialled—HDPE, rubber-lined steel, or standard mining hose—lasted longer than three months. In this area of the plant, you need piping that can absorb impact wear and withstand abrasive slurry. That’s why they decided to trial a Slurryflex CLX ceramic lined hose. It's flexible and can absorb impact from high velocity slurry. The alumina ceramic tiles embedded in the liner reduce wear from abrasive particles. We custom manufactured a DN400 Slurryflex bend for the team to trial. Since installation, it’s outperformed the previous alternatives by 800%.
