We’re thrilled to announce that BN’s Bryan Do has achieved accredited specialist status in family law with the The Law Society of NSW! Specialist Accreditation is a structured peer to peer assessment process enabling legal practitioners to be recognised for their expertise, held by less than 5% of the profession in New South Wales. The program consists of meticulous assessments on both legal knowledge and its application in practice. Since 2017, Bryan has practiced exclusively in family law, and this recognition is a testament to his deep expertise and ongoing commitment to his clients across a range of matters, including financial settlements, parenting disputes and child support matters. We congratulate Bryan on this well-deserved recognition of his hard work, technical ability and dedication to excellence in family law.

Congratulations to BN’s Melanie Quixley who has been reappointed as the National President of AILA Australian Insurance Law Association! Over the past year, Melanie has led AILA through an impressive period of growth and engagement, overseeing nearly 100 events, a standout National Conference, and the Ron Shorter Award program. Collaborating closely with the National Board and State Committees, Melanie has been instrumental in enhancing AILA’s offerings and strengthening its commitment to delivering top-tier insurance education. A dedicated national board member of AILA for six years, Melanie continues to play a pivotal role in promoting insurance law issues across Australia. Her contributions have been instrumental in strengthening BN's longstanding partnership with AILA, and we're proud of the positive impact she continues to make on the insurance industry. We’re excited to see all that Melanie will achieve alongside the National Board and State Committees in 2025!

BN Employment Law Specialist, Lisa Schumacher, recently delivered an insightful session on employment rights and obligations to participants of Two Good Co.’s ‘Work Work’ program, which provides employment for women who have experienced homelessness, domestic violence, and complex trauma. Lisa's session aimed to equip these women with a clear understanding of their minimum rights and practical ways to uphold them. At BN, we recognise the unique position we are in to leverage our legal expertise for the greater good. We are committed to making a positive impact in our communities through our Impact Project and would like to thank the Two Good team for this opportunity to contribute in such a meaningful way! Special Counsel, Insurance and Employment / WHS Lawyer at Barry Nilsson Lawyers

I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to give back today by giving a presentation on employment rights and obligations to Two Good Co.’s current Work Work Program intake, with a view to empowering them to know their minimum rights and how to enforce them. Two Good Co is a business for good and is BN’s current major charity partner. Through the creation of beautiful, high quality food and products, Two Good Co. supports, empowers and employs women with lived experience of homelessness, domestic violence and complex trauma. Through its flagship ‘Work Work’ employment pathways programs, Two Good Co. hire the women from the shelters it serves, empowering them to re-establish their self-belief and independence, while bridging the ‘love and skills’ gap in their journey to re-entering the workforce after living in crisis. Thanks for Two Good Co. for having me (and for the lovely thank you gift) and also thanks to our dedicated Impact Team at Barry Nilsson who enable and support us to spend time on projects like this.

Every few years, the topic of a no-fault compensation system is raised. Most articles focus on the benefits of such a scheme, while providing little analysis into the financial costs involved. Join BN's Robert Samut in our next First Thursday Club discussion where we will take a look at the arguments for and against no-fault compensation schemes. Without giving too much away on where we land, we will then look to see where the law is at in balancing the interests of plaintiffs and defendants in a clinical setting, and how claims against health care providers might be best defended.
