  • Meet Vidurshi: Embracing Engineering at Babcock In our recent interview with Vidurshi Fonseka, she shared her passion and journey as a woman in engineering. For Vidurshi, being a woman in engineering is about proving her capabilities and showcasing that women are just as competent as anyone else in the field. Joining Babcock in February 2024 as a Graduate Mechanical Engineer in the Counter Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosives (CBRNE) team, Vidurshi has had a seamless transition from university to her professional career. She has already achieved a lot, including working with Defence, developing her technical knowledge, and traveling to immerse herself in diverse engineering work. When asked about her inspiration, Vidurshi gives a shout-out to her cohort of girls from her mechanical engineering degree. Their mutual support and success in the industry, despite societal challenges, continue to inspire her. 👉 Read Vidurshi’s full story here > https://lnkd.in/eYZsrHMQ #WomenInEngineering #STEM #Innovation #Inspiration

  • #TEASER The construction of our new facility in Woodville North, South Australia has now reached practical completion! Construction officially launched in August 2023 and has been delivered on time thanks to South Australia’s leading developer Commercial & General and Tandem Building Group. This new purpose-built building will underpin our delivery of support to land and naval defence programs including in-service sustainment for the Collins Class submarine fleet, delivery of C-CBRNE asset management and solutions, and design and support of the Air Weapons Handling System for the Hunter Class Frigates. The increased size of the new facility will enable Babcock to grow the number of ongoing highly skilled jobs from 65 to more than 100 compared with our current Osborne premises which we’ll be vacating soon. In line with Babcock’s Plan Zero 40 roadmap, the facility has been designed to be operationally net zero from the outset through rainwater harvesting, large scale roof top solar, electric plant and equipment and the use of electric fleet vehicles.

  • Students from Mountains Christian College were treated to a site visit at Garden Island Defence Precinct facilitated by Babcock’s Project Manager Christopher Lewis to learn about the #DefenceIndustry and the potential #STEM career pathways available to them. Naturally, the students were thrilled to see some of the naval assets up close but also to learn more about the role defence industry plays in supporting the Royal Australian Navy. After providing the students some yo-yo’s as a memento, we also managed to get a lesson in how to master “Walking the Dog” and “Round the World”. We’re grateful for the CSIRO facilitating the tour and raising awareness about careers in the defence industry.
