Last week our property platform Aware Real Estate completed the largest single asset purchase in the industrial sector in 15 years with the $600 million acquisition of Austrak Business Park. This 99-hectare industrial estate is 20k outside Melbourne's CBD.     This purchase includes a mix of existing buildings and development land, and one of Australia’s largest intermodal terminals due for completion in 2025.     Combined with the neighbouring Somerton Intermodal Terminal project, we have allocated about $1 billion in combined property and infrastructure in Melbourne's north. This aims to generate strong returns for members and will also unlock value in the national supply chain.    We manage over $180 billion of our members’ savings and these projects are a great example of how we use our scale and investment expertise to allocate capital across different sectors to deliver member returns over the long-term.    This is great news for our 1.1 million members.     Congratulations Barings Real Estate and Intermodal Terminal Company on delivering a unique and strong value proposition for the industrial, commercial and freight sectors.     Read more below from Ben Wilmot for The Australian 👉🏾🔒: https://lnkd.in/gUWffCqE.  .  . . 👉 Past performance is not an indicator of future performance.

"Compound interest is the eighth wonder of the modern world. It’s the principle behind our super system, and it’s superb," reports Bec Wilson in her article in The Age.

In a recent article published in The Age, Bec Wilson, author of bestseller How to Have an Epic Retirement said: “One of the biggest misconceptions about superannuation is that it stops growing once you retire. More than 50 per cent of the money your super fund generates can happen after you’ve finished working. This is because most Australian retirees keep their savings in the super system, invested in balanced or growth funds, which typically generate returns of 7-9 per cent over the long term. So while you might have retired – your super keeps on working.” Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/eJvCF_PW

While I often call out the government, I must acknowledge that Australia's superannuation model is one of the greatest economic contributions any politician has made in this country. My guest on The Mentor, Deanne Stewart, just returned from an overseas trip, where top CEOs in the world were praising our superannuation system. As CEO of Aware Super, Deanne and her organisation manages $180 billion and serves 1.2 million Australians. Deanne offered valuable insights in this episode on managing time, preventing burnout, and making a real difference in the financial sector. We also explored her journey in finance and an unexpected encounter with the King of England. Aware Super welcomes the introduction of legislation that will ensure the Superannuation Guarantee is paid on government paid parental leave.      Tune into 3AW Drive at 5.10pm today to hear Jane Macnamara, Head of Advocacy, and Jacqui Felgate talk about what this could mean for Australian families. We urge parliament to pass this bill to help support Australian families build their retirement savings. Our CEO Deanne Stewart and WGEA Pay Equity Ambassador said: “We’ve been advocating for this change for many years on behalf of our members and all parents. We’re only too aware that caring duties fall disproportionately to women, and we want to see action now to help ensure they are financially secure in retirement.”  . . . ⭐ Gender pay gap values derived from the latest ABS AWE numbers released on the 18/07/2023. Times calculated are based on an average 40 hour working week. The projection is based on an average 32-year-old Australian woman with a salary $1,686 per week staying constant in real terms. Retirement balances are rounded to the nearest $1,000 and are stated in today's dollars, deflated using Average Weekly Ordinary Time Earnings (AWOTE) at 4.0% p.a. The projection assumes that a women gives birth at age 32, and then 34 and 36 if they have a second or third baby. The part time period starts immediately at age 32. The assumed investment option is a standard Growth option (Aware’s Balanced Option) returning CPI + 3.95% before admin fees.
