Do you think you could save for retirement without superannuation? If you said 'No', you are not alone. AustralianSuper conducted research into how people feel about the superannuation system, and it revealed that only a third of Australians believe they could save for their retirement if super wasn’t compulsory. Furthermore, a third of Millennials (33%) and Gen X'ers (32%), as well as nearly one-in-five Boomers (19%) - who are the closest to retirement age – said they would have between zero and $10,000 saved. Alarmingly, 15% of Australians reported they would have no retirement savings at all, if they didn’t have superannuation. It comes as no surprise then that Australians overwhelmingly see the benefit of super with 87% saying they believe in the value of the superannuation system in helping Australians save for their retirement. Can you guess which generation are the savviest super supporters? It's official! Super will be paid on the Commonwealth's Parental Leave Pay. The future is looking brighter for parents with the government legislating to pay superannuation on its Paid Parental Leave this morning. Parents will be eligible to receive the super payments for babies born or adopted on or after July 1, 2025. AustralianSuper, along with Women in Super, ASFA | The Voice of Super, and Super Members Council, has campaigned on this issue for many years as it's a key driver of the gender super gap. Women taking time out of the workforce to care for children is a major factor in Australian women retiring with around 25% less super savings than men. This announcement is an important step toward closing the gender super gap and helping all members achieve their best possible retirement outcome. As a partner in Assemble, we’re delighted to see their innovative build-to-rent-to-own (BTRTO) model receive this recognition. In July, we announced with Assemble the completion of another BTRTO project at 15 Thompson Street, Kensington, which too provides a clear and structured #PurchasePathway for Australians to move from renting to owning. That project is one of a number in a pipeline we have with Assemble, with the expectation of delivering more than 1,400 homes by 2027. Congratulations to Kris Daff, Carolyn Viney, Emma Telfer and the rest of the Assemble team. Read the PDS and TMD at australiansuper.com
We are excited to announce that 38 Albermarle Street, Kensington, has won the Development Innovation award at the 2024 Property Council of Australia's Innovation and Excellence Awards. These national awards recognise projects that shape the future of our cities for the better, and we are honoured to see our first purchase pathway project take home the innovation award. Reflecting on the achievement, our COO, Emma Telfer, said, “38 Albermarle Street’s success has shaped our future, opening doors to significant partnerships that allow us to expand on our ideas and deliver housing solutions for the many Australians for whom buying or renting a home has become increasingly challenging. We would like to thank the Property Council of Australia, judges and sponsors for their time and recognition, and importantly a heartfelt thank you to our team, our partners, and our residents who share in our vision for a better housing future and made this success possible.
