In a positive sign of hope for curbing this upward trend in fatalities, our recent research has indicated the power of heightened road safety awareness has on individual behaviour. 8 in 10 Australians say road safety messages have had a positive impact on their behaviour. Australians are travelling to work an average of 3.9 days per week. 68% expect their commuting routines to remain similar in the coming year with 22% expecting to travel more, while 7% expect to travel less. Road safety in the workplace extends beyond just truck, bus, and taxi drivers. It's about everyone— those who commute to and from work, drive between worksites, running errands, and those using alternative modes of transport. In 2023, 200 fatalities occurred in the Australian workplace. 42% (84) of worker fatalities were the result of Vehicle Incident, an increase of 3.7% from 2022. Vehicle incidents continue to account for the largest proportion of worker fatalities in workplaces across Australia. Work-related road safety relies on both individual actions and set procedures to help minimise risks.
