A study on hereditary angioedema (HAE) prevalence and satisfaction with prophylaxis in South Australia has been published in the World Allergy Organization Journal in 2024. This study was funded by an AIFA (Allergy and Immunology Foundation of Australasia) Primary Immunodeficiency Research Grant that was awarded in 2020. ADAPT OIT Program | Ten paediatric hospitals across five states have partnered with the National Allergy Centre of Excellence (NACE) to introduce the first ever, nation-wide, peanut oral immunotherapy program. Unlike clinical trials, eligible babies with peanut allergy will now be offered free, OIT treatment in mainstream care. The ADAPT OIT Program aims to change the way the most common food allergy among Australian school-aged children is treated. “From strictly avoiding peanut in diets to safely building a tolerance to the allergen – and hopefully achieving remission,” said Prof Kirsten Perrett, Director of the NACE and Head of the nation-wide program. #OIT is being tested around the world using different approaches, which makes it difficult to assess the results. The NACE, hosted at Murdoch Children's Research Institute (MCRI), will evaluate the safety and effectiveness of this program, as well as quality of life and long-term outcomes.
