ASFA is the peak policy, research and advocacy body for Australia’s superannuation industry
About us
The Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia (ASFA) is the peak policy, research and advocacy body for Australia’s superannuation (super) industry. Our purpose is to help achieve the best retirement outcomes for members of super funds through the development of good public policy and industry best practice. ASFA has been operating since 1962. •Not for profit: We re-invest our income back into the industry and community via research and advocacy projects based on the expertise of our experienced policy and Research Centre teams. This includes producing submissions to the government, reports, best practice papers, education for the community and research into key issues affecting superannuation fund members. •Non-sector aligned: ASFA focuses on whole-of-system issues including superannuation system design, regulatory frameworks, industry operations and governance. We take positions that are in the best interest of fund members, rather than advocating any one sector’s interests over another. •Non-party political: We advocate for sound, long-term public policy, not politically aligned outcomes. Through our members – which include superannuation funds from the corporate, industry, retail and public sectors, as well as service providers – we represent the whole super industry. ASFA Learning: We are also a registered training organisation and offer continuing professional development (CPD) courses and superannuation education for people at all stages of their career. A powerful message from Debby Blakey at HESTA. No parent should have to choose between supporting their family today and securing their financial future. The Coalition’s amendments to make super on government funded Paid Parental Leave optional undermines this essential equity reform. Superannuation is vital to closing the gender gap, and forgoing contributions during parental leave sets women back. Optional super forces women to trade long-term security for short-term relief. We stand firm in advocating for policies that ensure a fairer and more secure retirement for all Australians.
Why no Australian parent should have to choose between supporting their children now or securing their financial future

We would like to thank our partners Australian Unity, Macquarie Group, Natixis Investment Managers, Port of Newcastle and Novigi at ASFA’s inaugural #InvestmentSummit held last week in Newcastle. At the Summit over 100 key members of the #superannuation investment community convened under the theme 'Changing Horizons, Thriving Futures’ to explore a wide range of topics including the #geopolitical landscape, #AI advancements, risk sequencing, #liquidity management, #governance, #ASEAN region #investments, private credit, urban investments, and overcoming #energy transition challenges. With expert speakers hailing from Singapore, the United States, Indonesia, Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, and Australia, it was an important opportunity to explore fresh perspectives, foster collaboration, and engage in meaningful discussions about the critical issues shaping the investment landscape.

Last Friday, ASFA had an exciting day hosting an Investor Roundtable with the Indonesia Investment Authority (INA), Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade), and key players from the Australian superannuation industry. The session covered key opportunities in Indonesia’s growing economy, with discussions spanning digital, healthcare, infrastructure, renewables, and critical minerals, alongside the continued development of the new capital city. INA's CEO, Ridha W. provided valuable insights into their partnerships and investment platforms. We’re eager to see these partnerships deepen and drive meaningful investment opportunities for both countries. 💬 "Superannuation is a fortification of economic security for people" - Former White House Communications Director and asset manager Anthony Scaramucci has praised Australia’s compulsory #superannuation system. Speaking at the ASFA #InvestmentSummit in Newcastle this morning, Mr Scaramucci outlined his wish for the United States to have a form of superannuation and joins BlackRock co-founder and President Larry Fink in praising Australia’s superannuation system in a letter to investors earlier this year.
