Yesterday, I had the pleasure of representing Anchora at the Mumbrella Finance Marketing Summit. First, Mim Haysom GAICD from Suncorp Group shared brilliant creative examples from AAMI’s evolution, emphasising the need for solid objectives and measurement indicators. “There’s no point in being creative for the purpose of being creative!” Julie Nestor from Mastercard gave an inspiring and emotional presentation illustrating how Mastercard are “doing well by doing good”. Some amazing innovations around inclusion such as True Name, Where to Settle, Room for Everyone, Touch card and a motion picture with no pictures! Do yourself a favour and look these up! Bryan Wilmot addressed a major customer issue: “How do I get ahead in a world that’s holding me back?!” He revealed that 60% of people have little trust in their super fund for a dignified retirement, and Gen Z is very interested in their retirement despite misconceptions. Building on Gen Z, we were treated to a fantastic presentation by Sue Brailsford and Elly Bloom from NAB. From selling old clothes (Slay!) to getting back their Bread 🍞 from family and friends, Nab are finding ways to talk to them in their language and on their channels. They won’t come to you, you need to go to them! Dave Annesley from YOUI gave a fun (legal redacted) presentation about growing successful challenger brands. We need to be Nimble, Fearless and Deliberate. Sacrifice what we cant do and over commit on the important stuff. Basically do less… Better! Next up was a fun and creative talk with Tatiana Papavero from HCF and Simon Wassef. Having tough conversations to get to the Truth helped them to deliver a brilliant set of campaigns that have had amazing results and were just so much fun to watch. Our panel of brand powerhouses Potta Findikidis, Mark Hunter, and Emma Grainge sparked a healthy debate. In a woke bashing world they discussed the importance of authentic brand purpose when navigating brand activism. Douglas Nicol led a fireside chat with Matthew Bowen from ING full of insights and helped us to understand the problems we are trying to solve for our customers. With the increased cost of living, GenZ are finding new and creative ways to save money. Side hustles, selling possessions, and the emerging trend of “Property Pals” (buying property with friends). From ING’s research, nearly 50% of Aussies would consider this method to enter the property market. To conclude, Anita Ayres from Teacher Mutual Bank gave a masterclass on building powerful financial brands, emphasizing the “logo plus 3” concept for brand strategy.
