What’s driving our fascination with anti-heroes? Maria Lewis explores the allure of these complex characters, with insights from industry voices like CLEVERMAN star Hunter Page-Lochard, podcaster and author Joanna Robinson (THE RINGER, MCU: THE REIGN OF MARVEL STUDIOS, 2023) and comic artist Nicola Scott (BIRDS OF PREY, WONDER WOMAN, SECRET SIX). Their perspectives bring a fresh look at how figures like Deadpool, Erik Killmonger and Cruella blur the lines between hero and villain, and why they resonate in today’s culture. A great read for those curious about the evolution of storytelling in film, comics and beyond. Read more: https://acmi.me/eT

Earlier this year ACMI partnered with Ludo Studio, the Emmy-award winning production company behind BLUEY, ROBBIE HOOD and THE STRANGE CHORES, to establish a 3-month $10,000 residency giving local animators the opportunity to create the next global hit from our co-working hub, ACMI X. Last week our residency winners Team Bambino - lead by animation director Miles Colubriale - finished the first phase of filming at ACMI. Their hybrid-animation, IL CATTIVO BAMBINO, features a hand-built, adjustable 3D set with miniatures that allows the animation team to employ wild camera movement and perspective shifts. Team Bambino will now begin the next phase of the project, animating 2D characters to inhabit the 3D set. This distinct style of animation pays homage to works such as WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT? while the tone of the series is in the vein of classic feuding foe cartoons such as TOM & JERRY. The team are being mentored by Rhiannon Steffensen & Claire Renton from Ludo Studio and will present an in-progress version of IL CATTIVO BAMBINO at our soon-to-be-announced Animation Symposium. Congratulations to Miles Colubriale, Eugenia Liony Cynthiaputri, Yana Fidan and Vince Belcheff for their brilliant work so far – we can’t wait to see what comes next!

"As a Producer of School Programs at ACMI, I have a strong desire to develop LGBTQIA+ specific filmmaking and storytelling opportunities for young people. What if queer people could be offered an opportunity to explore and develop their own stories while still at school? How could we support them to explore their experience of being a part of the LGBTQIA+ community with intersections of culture, race, ethnicity, disability, class?" - Zoe McDonald, ACMI Producer for School Programs If you know someone aged 15–19, who identifies as LGBTIQA+ and has an interest in film, we invite them to apply for our upcoming LGBTQIA+ Young Filmmakers Workshop. 🔗 Find out more: https://acmi.me/eO
