Park House, Abbotsford. The Walmer Street Bridge upgrade is now complete - the finishing touch to the new Walmer Plaza and to our Park House project. This vital piece of infrastructure links Kew, Richmond, and Abbotsford, supporting pedestrians and the regional bicycle network. The heritage protected bridge has been restored, and new connections have been designed to compliment and celebrate the distinctive bridge engineering. The diagonal angles of the bridge are also re-interpreted within the dynamic building facade of Park House itself. The project includes extensive riverbank restoration and re-vegetation with new bike and pedestrian paths that wind between the sculptural pilotis supporting the building above, connecting Victoria Street to the Main Yarra Trail. It’s a big step in urban revitalisation and place making for the community. At the beginning of the year, Sydney's first purpose-built, build-to-rent housing development, Nightingale Marrickville, welcomed its first residents. Reflecting on the project's iterative design process, our team was able to conceptualise the small-footprint, private living spaces designed to maximise functionality and comfort all whilst maintaining high sustainability standards.  Sustainable materials were used across the project, including Paperock, used in all kitchens, robes and vanities, as well as rubber flooring made from raw cocoa husks. The unfinished AFS wall system were setout using their original dimensions to avoid construction waste. Fit with 36 rooftop solar panels, the building generates a minimum of 21kWp of its own electricity to improve the building’s performance and deliver a great sustainable outcome. Situated 150 meters from Marrickville train station, residents are encouraged to cycle, having access to a large bike storage space. You can find the project featured in the 100th edition of Green Magazine, available on shelves now.  Nightingale Housing   Fresh Hope Communities    #sydney #architecture #affordablehousing #buildtorent #aboutsjb #design #archilovers #archidesign

“Well being in our built environment, our everyday surroundings, starts with exposure to sunlight; it’s enhanced through the day with air flow but it is sustained by our connection with people. The ease considered within a plan brings comfort to our interactions and our state of being” says SJB Studio Associate, Gabrielle Suhr. Gabby will be joining a panel of industry experts at the upcoming Sustainability Summit on November 14, discussing "Building Healthy Homes for Wellbeing." The panel will explore how to create homes that support the long-term health of both residents and the buildings themselves. Tickets for the summit are still available, head to the below link for details. https://lnkd.in/gVSJkqAr #sustianabilityawards #sustainabilitysummit2024 #indesignlive #architectureanddesign #sustainability #paneldiscussion  #sydney

Sydney’s Beating Green Heart The next exciting and ambitious phase for Sydney Olympic Park is now on exhibition as part of the SOP Master Plan 2050, which outlines a coordinated, long-term vision and strategic planning framework for all 650ha, including the parklands and network of neighbourhoods. Our team have kept the ball rolling, with Master Plan 2025 building on the roadmap we first outlined in the Strategic Place Framework, and the 2050 Vision & Strategy, released in 2022.   By embedding Country, understanding ecology and consideration taken in the overlay and interloop of neighbourhoods, connections and green corridors, Master Plan 2050 aspires for a future Sydney Olympic Park that is a complex, layered suburb offering a rich and varied range of experiences for residents, workers and visitors whilst cementing its place as a thriving, diverse everyday retail and entertainment precinct for Greater Sydney.  Working with a fantastic multi-disciplinary team, our urban team undertook extensive analysis and testing of the built form, solar and wind, while assessing against global benchmarks to deliver a strategic plan that could provide up to 13,000 new homes, 32,000 jobs, alongside expanded educational and health facilities, retail and entertainment venues and community centres.  The proposal is on exhibition until the 25th of November, check out the link below to have your say. https://lnkd.in/ggyq4dHj Sydney Olympic Park Authority NSW Government Cred Consulting Atelier Ten WSP Transport & Infrastructure University of Technology Sydney Turf Design Studio SGS Economics and Planning Civille RWDI Ventures CPP Investments | Investissements RPC GLN Planning Artistic render by Mark Gerada #urbandesign #sydneyolympicpark #urbanrenewal #urbanrevitalisation #urbanprecinct #precinct #masterplan #masterplanning #design

Revisiting the iconic 51 Langridge four years on, the building stands as a testament to our commitment to workplace design—highly sustainable, contextually relevant, and focused on promoting the health and well-being of its occupants. Key features include multiple double-height gardens, extensive end-of-trip facilities, bicycle parking, dedicated cycling pathways, solar energy capture, green breakout spaces, rainwater harvesting, and a productive rooftop garden. And of course, it wouldn’t be SJB without something playful and unexpected. A bold, green stair ascends to the rooftop, making a striking statement on the building’s boundary side while reinforcing the project's wellness ethos. This feature, offering fresh air and views over Collingwood and the Melbourne CBD, serves as an attractive alternative to the lift, encouraging both incidental exercise and spontaneous interactions. Excellent news for our project with Link Wentworth and Landcom in Macquarie Park. The project is the first development to be approved through the new State Significant Development (SSD) pathway for in-fill affordable housing projects. The NSW Government introduced the SSD pathway in December 2023 to make it faster and easier to build more affordable housing. "It’s great to see the approval pathway creating affordable housing in places where people want to live, closer to jobs, transport and amenities", says Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully. The revised plan for 2 Fitzwilliam Street will see it become one of NSW's largest Build-To-Rent developments. The revision will deliver two BTR towers with approximately 800 homes including affordable housing and NDIS-compliant apartments, more than doubling the number of homes originally planned for the site. We are thrilled to announce a major milestone for our 2 Fitzwilliam Street, Parramatta project, which is now set to become one of NSW’s largest Build-To-Rent (BTR) developments. As part of the NSW Government’s new State Significant Rezoning Policy, our revised plan has been selected by the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure to proceed as a State Assessed Planning Proposal. The changes will allow approximately 800 BTR dwellings to be delivered, including affordable and NDIS-compliant apartments, as well as a 200-key hotel. The dual tower project will redefine the skyline of Parramatta CBD, becoming a true landmark that not only transforms the city, but also plays an important role in addressing Sydney’s housing challenges. We're proud to be able to contribute to the NSW Government’s housing strategy, supporting the creation of 377,000 new homes by 2029, and aligning with City of Parramatta’s 2050 vision of a vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable city. We are absolutely thrilled to share that Associate & First Nations Lead at SJB, Jack Gillmer-Lilley, along with Michael Mossman and Emily McDaniel, has been selected as the creative directors for the 2025 Venice Biennale’s Australian Pavilion. Fresh from his Galang Residency at the Cité des Arts in Paris, Jack has been quietly contributing to the team’s concept for their proposal, Home. Jack, a proud Worimi & Biripi man, has been working closely with Emily McDaniel, a curator, writer, and educator from the Kalari Clan of the Wiradjuri Nation, and Michael Mossman, a lecturer and researcher at the University of Sydney, and proud Kuku-Yalanji man. While we weren’t involved in the winning concept, we are incredibly proud to support Jack as he embarks on this exciting journey, and we can’t wait to see this extraordinary team bring their vision to life. Our team are excited to announce that we will be transforming the Australian Pavilion at the Australian Venice Architecture Biennale. We will present HOME for the 19th International Architecture Exhibition - La Biennale Di Venezia 2025. The Creative Directorial team Dr Michael Mossman, Emily McDaniel and Jack Gillmer-Lilley behind HOME, were nominated to represent the voices of First Nations design practitioners: Clarence Slockee, Kaylie Salvatori, Bradley Kerr and Elle Davidson. During the process of gathering ideas we shared stories, memories and experiences. The proposal is the embodiment of our emotions, connections, relationionality to Country, and aspirations yarned over the course of the development of HOME. We will create an immersive, culturally rich experience. We are excited to celebrate the Australian Pavilion with expressions of our living cultures and invite others to deeply reflect on their own understanding of HOME. Who’s keen for Venice in 2025? Located on a quiet street just off the main road of Ararat, Victoria, Ararat House stands out amid its Edwardian and Victorian-era neighbors. Originally a 1950s dwelling, the home has been transformed with a north-south addition, creating new living, kitchen, and dining spaces. Designed by SJB Director Adam Haddow for his parents, the house is filled with personal details that reflect his parents way of living, crafted by someone who knows them best. Ararat House was recently featured in Houses Magazine, on shelves now. #architecture #design #australiandesign #houses #housesmagazine

“When there is attention to sustainability and design, as well as landscaping and tree canopy, everyone in the community benefits … And after nearly four years of construction, the area is buzzing on a Saturday morning.” says Surry Hills Village resident, Lesley Holden. A project almost a decade in the making, the development led by TOGA recently opened its doors to residents and the surrounding community, with the residential and retail components now complete. The new retail component, Wunderlich Lane, provides not only much-needed amenities and connection for the community through a new east-west pedestrian connection across the site, but also offers a thoughtful, deliberate and curated mix of retail and hospitality offerings to ensure consumer needs are met, whilst ensuring Wunderlich Lane is a true “18 hour precinct." A true culmination of local talent and knowledge of place, the precinct has been brought to life by the various talented designers including Studio Prineas ASPECT Studios and 360 Degrees. Surry Hills Village has been featured in the Sydney Morning Herald, check it out. https://lnkd.in/gz3saPZU #architecture #mixeduse #precinct #sydney #masterplan #collaboration #design #australiandesign
