To show pride, respect and honour to those that have fallen and walk tall beside their families and brothers-in-arms.

About us

42 for 42 is a not-for-profit organisation which was founded by ex-Army veterans whose aim is to help struggling veterans and their families by building a memorial dedicated to those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. The 42 stands for the 41 soldiers who were killed in Afghanistan, with the 42nd representing the soldiers we have lost and continue to lose to suicide, and those who have returned with injuries and mental illness. It is our vision and mission to build a Memorial Garden in the grounds of Suncorp Stadium beside the Anglican Church of Australia. This is a wonderful opportunity to show your pride, respect and honour to those that have fallen and walk tall beside their families and brothers-in-arms. In November teams will walk over 42 hours, carrying 42kg representing each of the Fallen. Each hour will represent and honour an individual soldier. Our aim is to demonstrate the powerful symbolism of people coming together for a common cause, moving forward in life sharing our burdens, helping carry the load, and taking one step at a time to achieve our goals. All members of 42 for 42 are volunteers and donate their time and passion to build this memorial for the Fallen.

We would like to send a huge congratulations to Afghanistan War Veteran Damien Thomlinson on his project with world renowned photographer Richard Wiesel. Some of the 42 for 42 members were able to be part of this special project. A new photographic exhibition - ‘SERVICE’ by Richard Wiesel and ex- commando Damien Thomlinson was launched on the 2nd and 9th November at the Victoria Army Barracks in Sydney on and will be online through the Australian War Memorials digital collections. SERVICE is a series of portraits and interviews of our Australian Defense Force veterans that illuminates the heavy price our men and women pay when they pull on this country’s uniform. With each photograph, Richard and Damien have not only captured the visible markers of military service but also the invisible wounds carried by those who served and the loved ones of those who never returned. The exhibition is a testament of the emotional and physical odyssey of reintegration, exploring the profound personal transformations that unfold as one chapter of life concludes and another begins. The Australian War Memorial in Canberra has acquired ‘SERVICE’ as part of its digital archives, ensuring that these invaluable stories are preserved and made accessible to all Australians. Well done Damien and Richard and Thank You for the opportunity to have representatives of the 42 for 42 involved. LTGEN Susan Coyle AM, CSC, DSM John Carey Rupert McCall

On this day 3 years ago we held official opening of the Afghanistan War Memorial Garden. It was an incredible day, with so many different emotions and so much pride was shown by so many different people in what has been created. It was a long 5 years, with many obstacles to overcome to get to the opening. Resilience was what drove us. To many people, organisations and businesses told us NO and didn’t understand what it could become for so many. We stayed strong, deliberate and passionate and after all the fundraising, research, progressing through all the red tape and difficult work we all were put through, we were able to have a day where we could PROUDLY honour all the sacrifice from Australians in the war in Afghanistan. The determination and perseverance is what got the Afghanistan War Memorial Garden built, and it will now, last a lifetime. To all those that served your country proudly in Afghanistan and the families that supported them, this memorial is for you, it is to show we are proud and thankful for the sacrifices that was given. “If you believe in yourself and have dedication and pride - and never quit, you'll be a winner. The price of victory is high but so are the rewards.” Rupert McCall LTGEN Susan Coyle AM, CSC, DSM John Carey Curtis McGrath OAM PLY
