Kmart fans have taken to a Facebook group to slam a kitchen product, after saying a random piece of it 'blew up' and caused an electrical blackout. The electric fry pan, which used to be $32 and has dropped to $29, has received negative reviews online with Kmart shoppers saying they have taken the product back to the store to get refunds or replacements.

One user took to a Kmart fan Facebook page to lodge their warning to others who may have the same pan, saying theirs 'randomly blew up'.

"Plugged this electric fry pan in and as it was heating for a couple of seconds, I stepped aside to grab my ingredients and lucky I did as it randomly blew up and caused a blackout," they wrote. "Lucky nobody was injured or anywhere near it at the time! Has anyone else had this happen or was it just a faulty one? We’ve had the Kmart version before and it lasted way longer. Lost the receipt so [I] can’t return, we’ve since chucked it. Very scary and odd!"

Kmart shoppers said even without a receipt, they'd still take the item back to report it and make sure the store is aware of the dangers associated with it.

"Even without the receipt, I'd take it back. They will see it hasn't been in use very often," one person wrote. "So dangerous... glad you moved away when you did." Another echoed their sentiments, saying, "Omg you are so lucky you walked away when you did!"

Another person weighed in saying the same thing had happened to them with the same product. "YES!!! I had the same thing and it actually caught fire where the metal thing plugs into the frying pan," they wrote. "I ended up taking it back and lodged a complete with head office and they called me but haven't done anything about it. It was the second one I had, [the] first one just tripped the safety switch and blew the actual machine up, second one caught fire."

"Yes! I had something similar happen. I had used it for maybe a month or two, and one night I plugged it in and it blew a circuit and cut my power off and the plug on the pan was sparking and smoking. I wouldn’t personally recommend buying again," another said. "Sorry that happened to you and glad nobody got injured! Perhaps also put a report in to Kmart as if similar things have happened to other people they may remove them off the shelves. Someone may not be as lucky."

On TikTok however, one user left a review of the fry pan, giving it 5 stars. "Good heat coverage, if you use the right temperature, you'll be right," they said.

Others said they have struggled to return the item or felt like the store didn't take it seriously.

"I bought a Kmart one and the same thing happened, I had to have my powerpoint replaced! I went to return it to the store and the store manager did not want to know about it!" one person complained.

Online, while the item has a 4.5/5 star rating, some reviews also said the item had only lasted people "a few weeks" before no longer working.

"Lasted a few weeks and stopped working," one person said. "Poor quality product, I’m afraid to cook in it," another wrote.

Yahoo Lifestyle has reached out to Kmart for comment on the item.
