Biography

“I wanted a career where I would have the opportunity to make a difference in people's lives, to help others, and to be able to continually learn in an ever-changing field.”

Dr. Woodward is board certified in family and geriatric medicine. She specializes in dementia, caregiver support, delirium, polypharmacy and inpatient geriatric consults. She was a finalist for the Atrium Health Teal Acorn Innovator of the Year Award.

Growing up, Dr. Woodward found her grandparents’ lives and stories fascinating and that lead to her interest in geriatrics. She was the first person in her family to attend college and was drawn to science but always had a desire to serve others. For her, medicine has not only been a calling, but a privilege.

Dr. Woodward enjoys forming personal relationships with her patients as well as their caregivers to support them in any way during a very stressful time. She has a passion for teaching and enjoys being able to provide patients and their families with education and support.

With a grant from Duke Endowment, Dr. Woodward is leading research to start virtual clinics in targeted rural communities, providing a direct communication link between dementia patients, their families and caregivers and their healthcare resources.

She received her medical degree at the Medical University of South Carolina and completed her residency at Mountain Area Health Education Center. She followed that with fellowships at the University of North Carolina and Northwestern University.

She enjoys spending time with her husband and their French bulldog, as well as traveling, cooking, attending fine arts and cultural events and cheering on the Carolina Panthers.
