Course Modules:

Module 1: Introduction to Technology Integration

• AI: the Basics
• Understanding the role of technology, digital tools, and AI in teaching and learning.
• Identifying the benefits and challenges of incorporating technology into instruction, including the common pitfalls of using AI tools such as ChatGPT.
• Creating a digital portfolio

Module 2: Adapting Traditional Lesson Plans

• Using AI tools to create customised lesson plans and reduce teacher planning time.
• Transforming existing lesson plans for seamless technology integration
• Selecting appropriate digital resources to enhance lesson content
• Incorporating interactive elements for increased student engagement

Module 3: Digital Tools for Teaching

• Utilising digital platforms and tools to create engaging lessons, activities and materials

• Integrating AI in creating dynamic and adaptive lesson content and materials.

• Integrating gamified and interactive activities into lessons.

• Supporting learners’ needs with AI and other digital resources

Module 4: Student-Centric AI Applications

• Exploring AI tools that support individualised language learning paths
• Personalising instruction and assessments through AI applications
• Addressing ethical considerations and best practices when using AI with students.

Module 5: Digital Homework and Assignments

• Using technology to implement a flipped classroom.
• Designing effective and purposeful digital homework assignments
• Implementing online platforms for homework submission and feedback

Module 6: Assessing with Technology

• Exploring digital assessment tools and strategies for language teaching contexts
• Addressing issues of fairness, authenticity, and reliability in digital assessment

Module 7: Micro-Teaching and Practical Application (Project Work)

• Participants will have the opportunity to plan and delivered a short teaching segment applying the concepts learned throughout the course
• Peer and instructor feedback to identify strengths and areas for improvement in technology, digital tools, and AI integration
• Collaborative discussion on effective strategies and troubleshooting common challenges encountered during micro-teaching sessions
• Creating a portfolio of resources, lesson plans and materials
• Reflection on the experience and consideration of adjustments for future implementation in real-life classrooms

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this course, participants should be better able to:

• Understand the basics of AI and its beneficial role in language teaching.
• Utilise AI tools to create and adapt customised lesson plans.
• Incorporate AI to create dynamic and adaptive lesson content that supports language skills.
• Design and create teaching materials and learning activities using AI and other digital tools.
• Support students in developing their critical thinking skills to use AI responsibly.
• Use digital tools, including AI, to effectively and efficiently assess students.
• Support colleagues with ideas, techniques and resources, to integrate AI into a programme of language teaching and learning in their schools.
• Communicate more effectively about AI and the use of digital tools in language education, through English.

By the end of this course, participants will have:

• Worked collaboratively in a cross-cultural learning environment to share experiences and best practice with colleagues from across the EU.
• planned and delivered a short teaching segment applying the concepts learned throughout the course, receiving peer- and instructor-feedback
• created a digital portfolio of resources, lesson plans and materials
• Reflected on the experience and considered how their learning might be applied in their own classrooms.
• Been offered the opportunity to participate in an online forum for continued support and sharing of best practice after the course.

Teaching Style

The Language Teaching in the Age of AI training course combines course input from ATC’s trainers with group discussion and collaborative work. Throughout the course participants are given the opportunity to apply their learning by teaching a short demo lesson using AI, and by creating a digital portfolio of teaching resources and lesson ideas that can be used in their teaching context, or for the purposes of training other teachers in this technology.

In-person training is carried out in our Dublin City Centre or Bray schools, delivered by our experienced teacher trainers.

Certificated hours

At the end of the course, teachers will receive an ATC Language Schools’ Certificate of Attendance for the 30 hour programme of: Language Teaching in the Age of AI. (20 hours of lessons + 10 hours of trainer-directed project work).

The 1 week course can be combined with anothr Teacher Training & Development programme or a General English course, to form a 2-week programme. Please contact us for details.
