The CultTech Summit isn’t just about startups and investments. Among our artistic highlights is an immersive exhibition examining how our senses — hearing, sight, smell, and touch — are subtly reshaped by digital influences. 𝐖𝐡𝐨 𝐒𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐌𝐞 Curated by Where Dogs Run 📅 Exhibition | 5-6 November, all day | Baroque Suites We would like to discuss how our bodies, through hearing, vision, smell, and touch, have imperceptibly transitioned to radical reformatting, driven by the “extensions” as defined by Marshall McLuhan. What is happening to our sensory systems? Can we be sure that they still fully belong to us? How deeply have we (already) merged into the media-body, woven from digital control, biometrics, targeted content, the personal data economy, information storms, bubbles, and systems of media rewards? Can we separate the means of information transmission from the means of control? We invite you to test the extent of our bodies’ dissolution and the depth of their symbiotic integration into what is still referred to as media-and-information technologies. 🙏 We are incredibly proud to have Sylvain as one of our speakers at the CultTech Summit 2024! His work with the DSLcollection, co-founded with his wife Dominique, represents a unique intersection of contemporary Chinese art, digital innovation, and forward-thinking art curation. From launching a museum in Second Life to creating interactive VR experiences and immersive spaces, his journey pushes the boundaries of how we engage with art in the digital age. Thank you for sharing your inspiring vision. We’re excited to hear more about how the DSL Collection continues to redefine the future of art!
I am honoured to deliver a keynote speech at CultTech, held on November 5-6 at Vienna's Museumsquartier, with the theme "Honouring Tradition, Embracing Change." During this event, I will share the journey and vision behind the DSL Collection. The DSL Collection stands at a strategic intersection of art, technology, and collecting within the art world. Founded in 2005 with my wife Dominique, our family collection celebrates the vibrant and dynamic realm of contemporary Chinese art. Our passion extends beyond mere collecting; we strive to challenge traditional art curation boundaries by embracing digital innovation. Since its inception, the DSL Collection has mirrored two significant transformations: the transformation of China—its economy and society—and the transformation of the human experience through the digital world. While we deeply appreciate the timeless tradition of art collecting that has enriched human culture for centuries, we also welcome the revolutionary possibilities digital innovation offers for sharing and experiencing art. This duality—this interplay between the traditional and the contemporary—renders our journey profoundly human and relevant. We have adapted to modern technologies with key milestones, including: 2009: Launching a museum on Second Life. 2016: Creating a VR video game museum. 2021: Developing "The Forgetter," a video game that integrates our collection with interactive gameplay. In the same year, on Sansar, a metaverse platform, we crafted 14 interconnected social VR experiences. 2022: Establishing a permanent immersive space in Shenzhen's Pingshan public museum. This approach not only democratizes access to art but also addresses challenges related to physical displays, such as costs and scalability. It enables the DSL Collection to create engaging and interactive experiences that appeal to diverse audiences, including both younger and older generations. Envisioning the future is impossible so today we have to learn how to navigate in an era of chaos. It means to have a totally different mindset. We are pleased to partner with ANASAEA in Vienna to offer a VR experience of the DSL Museum. Given the diverse audience at CultTech, discussing how we can preserve the essence of artistic tradition while pioneering new ways for people to connect with art in our rapidly evolving world will provide valuable insights for everyone present at this event. #culttech, #culttechsummit, @anasaea
