This Axolotl costume is a big hit at my house. My nieces and nephews love to wear it. They love the look, the blow-up aspect and have had so much fun playacting stories and staging videos and performances with it. I love that it helps encourage creative play and that it is easy to use and wear. Putting the costume on is easy - simply step into the leg holes, pull the costume over your legs and slip it up to your waist. Then pull the rest up the torso, secure the black hood over your head, pull the Axolotl head on and use the drawstring to tighten. Then turn on the blower, zip up the front and you are good to go! So, yes, you need help to get in and out of it as the Axolotl hands make it a little rough to use the zipper LOL! We have had teens wear this costume and it works perfectly for them. It also works great for adults and I love that I am all set with a Halloween costume that is quick, easy and comfortable to wear. Shorter kids could probably get away with wearing this costume too, if you push up the legs. The best part about the costume is the tail - its so cute and so fun to accidentally hit people with it as you walk by!

The fan is a little weaker than I was expecting. It keeps the costume inflated, but it doesn't fully inflate and looks a little wrinkly. It's no big deal and the kids sure don't care. We use a portable charger or rechargeable batteries (4 AA batteries needed) as the costume needs constant power to stay inflated. The rechargeable options make this costume a fun choice. The battery pack/portable charger tucks into a little pocket inside the costume and then you can switch it on/off from there. This costume is lots of fun and brings a smile to everyone's face when they see it. It is a great choice for dress-up fun or Halloween events.

I've been tempted to get one of these inflatable costumes a number of times. When I saw this axolotl one offered as a Vine promotion, I knew it was time to give it a chance. My son is a huge fan of axolotls, and I'm going to surprise him with this on his birthday.

As you might expect, the fabric is very thin on these. It needs to be in order for the small AA-battery-powered fan to be able to keep it inflated. Because of the thin fabric, you need to be careful to avoid tearing it. To prevent tearing, I recommend putting it on in a room where you're not going to be bumping into things. I put mine on in a bathroom, and it wasn't until it was fully inflated that I realized that wasn't a good idea: the suit itself is quite bulky in the midsection, and the tail sticks out behind you a couple feet. It's very big! Think Barney the Dinosaur big.

When I first put this on, I didn't realize that the legs have elastic bands at the bottom for your feet to go through. So I was standing inside of it thinking that it must be made for a much shorter person -- I had to crouch rather low to have room for my shoulders. When I realized that my feet were meant to go through the (very tight) elastic openings, it made a lot more sense.

It's a bit tricky to get inside without putting a lot of stress on the fabric around the front zipper. I recommend stepping in with your feet first (through the holes!), one at a time, and then carefully lifting the costume up over your arms, one at a time. If you're careful you should be able to avoid tearing anything.

There is an internal pouch to hold the battery pack. I couldn't find it at first, so I just put the pouch in my right pant pocket, and that allowed it to reach the USB plug for the fan on the right side.

I used 1.2V AA rechargeable batteries rather than the recommended 1.5V alkaline batteries, and they seemed to work just fine. The suit inflates in a reasonable amount of time -- I believe it was under a minute. Just make sure the zipper is all the way up to make things as airtight as possible.

Inside the costume, it can get a little hot. The inflator fan does add some air movement which helps, but you're probably going to get a little uncomfortable if the ambient temperature is on the warm side. Shorts and a short-sleeved shirt are likely a good option unless you're in a very cool environment.

Visibility is somewhat limited despite the large-ish transparent window where the mouth of the creature is. I don't love that your head can easily be seen through the window...I wish there were a way to mitigate this somewhat. I think the biggest problem is that the suit is very large, so you have to get used to how much space you're taking up when you're walking around. You'll definitely bump into things and people, especially with your tail as you turn around.

The product video here on Amazon pretty accurately depicts how the costume looks and moves around as you walk. There's a bit of a lag/bobble-head effect, but that only adds to the weirdness of it all. You'll get used to it if you stand in front of a mirror and observe how the costume reacts to your movements.

4.5/5 stars. I really think this is an excellent axolotl costume. It looks great, works well, and the larger-than-life size of it adds a little something extra. I recommend it, and it's a no-brainer if you're an axolotl fan.

This axolotl inflatable costume was easy to put on and easy to use. It takes batteries or the battery pack can be charged. It is quite loud, so I would recommend being in it for an extended period of time. It has an easy view from the characters mouth. It's cute and fun. It is a light parachute-like material that is used. It can last, but does needed to be cared for. I think the price at just under $30 is appropriate. I like it.
