I like to know my electricity usage, so this is a great way for me to see that in real time, and it even lets you select your service provider to see the electricity rate you are paying so it gives you an estimated price. This is a great way to know what your EV is costing you. The only thing it could do better is cord management isn't great, it is sometimes hard to lineup the connector to return it to its slot and there isn't a lot of room to loop cable over the top.
Otherwise it is great, if you like to know your stats get this unit. Does what it needs and no more. No problem with my Clarity PHEV at 7.2 kw or my 2012 Volt at 3.6 kw.
I installed this unit using 10 gauge stranded hots, a solid 10 gauge ground, 3/4 inch flexible PVC conduit and water tight connections. However you choose to install it, make sure your conduit and connectors are rated for a wet location (assuming that it is being installed outdoors). I had originally intended to mount the unit under the house (in the foundation area), then run the cord through an external wall. The reasoning behind this is that I didn't want this unit to be a target for thieves, given that it costs over $600 with tax. However, the connector on the unit side of the charging cable is rather large, and would have required a very large hole in the wall, most of which would subsequently have to be sealed with silicone. Thus, I ended up mounting it outside, requiring only a 1” hole to accommodate the 3/4" conduit.
Having mounted the unit outside, I thought the 25' cord would be overkill. However, it is just right for my application, which requires the cord to go down to the ground, underneath a small gate, over to the car, then up to the charging port. Thus, unless your car is in very close proximity to the unit, I suggest spending the extra money on the 25' cord.
The ChargePoint software runs on my Android phone and my Wife's iPhone without a problem. The app is not ideal, but certainly functional and without obvious bugs. You can also access the unit via a web browser. Alexa integration seems good, but I don't really use it. Moreover, I only use the ChargePoint software/website for charge monitoring and power consumption information. I have yet to use the scheduling feature, but will probably do so in the summer months, when there is a significant difference between peak and off-peak hours for electricity consumption.
There are other chargers on the market which are probably just as good that will cost you a bit less. I went with ChargePoint mainly due to reputation and their large market share in the industry (there are lots of commercial ChargePoint stations out in the field).
If there is a possibility that you may need to use your unit outside (e.g., you plan to install it in a garage, but may later move your residence to a place where this is not an option), I suggest getting the hardwired unit. The hardwired unit is the only one that is rated for outdoor use, but it can be used indoors as well. If you have a 240 volt outlet and don't want to run new wires from your panel, just rig it up to a 240 plug and plug it into the receptacle. Again, this should be relatively easy for DIY types, but something to avoid if you're not comfortable with electrical wiring.
So after 5 months of operation the charger now displays a red light on the side and wont charge. App says that I can charge but when connected to my EV it does not provide power to it. I walked through the trouble shooting which is pretty much a joke as there is not much you can do besides reboot the charger using the app or power cycle. So I followed those steps and none of them worked. Which after the troubleshooting says to call support. This is where the real issue starts. I call support and they immediately think I am calling about one of there outside stations so I then needed to explain that it was a home charger. After clearing that up they have walk through the same steps as the apps troubleshooting guide. After that they say they need to escalate the ticket and have someone come take a look. Which sounds great except that the customer service representative doesn't know when they will contact me and they can not provide me the ticket number because that gets sent to the level 2 rep and they don't have access to it. After which the person tells me that they will contact me with in 3 to 4 days and if they don't then to call back. Which I am like what the kind of support is this.
So here I am now at the 4th day and no contact and not able to charge. Luckily I have my backup charger but that is on 120v but for 500 dollars I would hope for two things. 1) it better work longer than a year and 2) the support needs to be on point. Now I am sure other people will say they have had no issue but how a company handles the customer that do speaks volumes and right now I can say as that customer go with the manufacturers charger if they have one.I mean I wasn't even offered credit to go charge at one of their stations as a way of customer appreciation.
I will keep this updated with the results I get but it has not been going well being without a fast charger at home for almost a week.
Edit* So far charger has not worked for 9 days and received no call from support to take care of the issue. Monday was a holiday so that pushed getting help until Tuesday and also sucked because of all the additional driving. So after contacting support again the representative took a look at my account saw all the information about my charger, was able to see a relay was tripped and asked if there was a power surge that happened, there wasn't. Guy kept trying to find some subtle way to point that it was something outside the devices fault. However a relay was tripped which is what it is designed to do for power spikes but it should be able to be reset and that is the issue. So something went wrong there. So now I have to wait for a replacement unit which maybe Saturday and then I have to replace the unit myself which is a hardwire unit that I paid a contractor to install. The support rep did walk me through a little of it but I might have to see about contacting the contractor but will attempt myself first. Yeah make sure to get the plugin that way if an issue happens it is easy to replace which is something that shouldn't happen.
I probably wont do another update because this should be resolved after two weeks without a charger. The thing that really irks me is that chargepoint has chargers in my area that they could provide some sort of credit for incase I need to get a quicker charge. The point would be to stand by your product and show some customer loyalty if something happens they got you covered. However both times I called that never happened. My advice go with a plug in unit it will pay off more but might not look as nice but if the unit breaks it is easy to replace. Get the car manufacturer charger if they have one for your car as the wifi, schedule and app features are all sound nice but probably done by your vehicle so really you don't need another thing to handle that.

I’m really disappointed in the product and the lack of urgency displayed by CP. I would not recommend this product or the company making it. They still have some growing up to do, both in engineering, and in understanding their customers needs.
One issue which I hope will be resolved soon, is that Amazon Alexa only works with this ChargePoint unit in the US. For some reason, despite ChargePoint selling the units to Canada, the Amazon Alexa skill that is required is geo-blocked for use in Canada. Also, the ChargePoint Android app requires registering a payment method so that you can use your mobile phone to pay at public ChargePoint stations. Ironically, there don't seem to be any public ChargePoint EVSEs in my area -- still, it might be handy when travelling. Also, you cannot lock your home charger. I was hoping there would be an "off" switch or a feature/setting through the Android app that would allow for prevention of unauthorised charging from my home unit. Sadly, this doesn't seem possible, which means that if your unit is installed in an accessible location on your property, someone with an EV could help themselves to your electricity -- seems like a design flaw to me. Wi-Fi setup through the ChargePoint app was very quick and easy. It seems to be a quality unit and I like that the cord easily wraps around the unit with a centre dock for the charging handle -- great design.
The charger downloads Hydro One time-of-day rates and uses them to calculate your cost per charge. It can be programmed to only charge at the lowest (ie., overnight and weekend) rates, which would be handy if your EV doesn't support such timing itself.
As pointed out below, the length of charge time is connected time after charging starts, but the app does include a graph for each charge showing the charging time, the kilowatts used throughout the charge and the total kWh added.
My only regret is not buying the 25 foot cord, but it was out of stock when I ordered the charger and the new car delivery was only days away.
