Carter Dredge is the lead futurist for SSM Health—a large, Catholic not-for-profit health system headquartered in St. Louis, MO, that employs over 40,000 people and serves communities across four States. Carter provides executive strategic leadership for SSM Health’s research and development (R&D), innovation, and new venture activities by identifying and developing novel and emerging opportunities to accelerate large-scale healthcare transformation. Prior to his role as lead futurist, he was also the chief transformation & chief strategy officer for SSM Health. Carter is the first American to be accepted into a unique business doctorate program at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom specifically designed for senior executives that have built or lead major corporations, with the goal of creating new globally impactful management theories and organizations. Prior to joining SSM Health, Carter worked at Intermountain Healthcare, where he held numerous innovative leadership roles, including the administrator over Homecare Services and director of healthcare transformation & population health. Prior to working at Intermountain, Carter worked at Catholic Health Initiatives (now CommonSpirit Health), where he led multiple major payment reform initiatives. Carter is a founding board member and key business model architect of Civica Rx, a recently launched, innovative not-for-profit generic drug company designed to disrupt the US generics market to ensure that essential generic drugs are available and affordable to everyone. He sits on a number of other boards, including Navitus Health Solutions, a national-scale fully transparent pharmacy benefit manager, Lumicera Health Services, an innovative specialty pharmacy provider, and Graphite Health, a trusted digital healthcare ecosystem and marketplace. Carter holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Management/Corporate Finance from Brigham Young University and a Master of Healthcare Administration from Cornell University, where he is also currently a lecturer in the graduate school teaching a course on innovative healthcare payment design. Carter enjoys running, rock climbing, skiing, and mountain biking, and he and his wife Rachel are the proud parents of four children. Carter is a Fellow of the fifth class of the Health Innovators Fellowship and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
