ZETA Kicks Off with First Standardization Working Group Meeting! Last week, ZETA (Zero Emissions Traders Alliance) got down to business with the first meeting of the Standardization Working Group co-hosted with DLA Piper. With over 50 participants, we launched into the important work of creating standards for the trade of low-carbon commodities. This followed ZETA’s first board meeting under newly appointed Chairman Peter Terium, held at the offices of DLA Piper in Vienna. DLA Piper attorneys presented the legal groundwork for key initiatives that will shape the future of low-carbon commodity trading. 🔍 Key Highlights: Kenneth Wallace-Mueller provided insights on CBAM and compliant PPAs, exploring how companies can deploy power purchase agreements for renewable energy and hydrogen to avoid the EU’s carbon border tax. Andreas Gunst and Valentina Eigner introduced a Sales & Purchase Agreement (SPA) template, produced for the Hydrogen Council, to standardize SPAs for renewable ammonia/hydrogen derivatives across various regulatory regimes. This template will be a vital tool for ZETA’s working group as they develop standard contracts for new energy commodity contracts, particularly for renewable and low-carbon hydrogen, ammonia, and SAF. After the presentations, discussions continued with an intense Q&A session, lasting over two hours, showing the group's deep engagement with these critical issues. ZETA Secretary General Jan Haizmann set out the group’s objectives and next steps, focusing on standardized wholesale markets, regulations, and incentives to make emission-free products into tradable commodities. The group's work will include production attributes and terms for delivery, with a goal of establishing tradable commodities within two years, covering standardized contracts for hydrogen, its derivatives, and voluntary certificates. Peter Terium, Chief Executive Officer of ENOWA, a subsidiary of NEOM has been named Chairman of the newly formed ZETA (Zero Emissions Traders Alliance). The alliance, founded in 2023 by energy leaders Paul van Son and Jan Haizmann, aims to unite stakeholders in energy commodity markets to accelerate the transition to low, zero, and even sub-zero greenhouse gas emissions. ZETA's primary focus is initially centered on clean energy trading in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, with plans for global expansion.
