Team work makes the dream work! 💪 Our Creative Lead, Megan Roselli, shares a little on the importance of team work in a creative project. #inscrive

    Creative Lead at Inscrive

An important thing I've noticed since stepping into a management role at Inscrive is that when working with a team of creatives to produce a story, ego can get in the way of a beautiful piece of fiction. Maybe the outliner feels like it's their own personal story, maybe one or multiple of the writers working on a project feel like it's theirs, or maybe the editor is so caught up in the story that they want to be reading that they forget to consider what the client actually wants out of the story we're producing (whether the client is our own company, or an outside partnership with one of our prestigious clients). The truth is though, regardless of whether we're producing the story for ourselves or for a client, it's important to remember that a production team is exactly that - a team. Creatives can bring a lot to the table, and it's important to allow space for all of our teammates to shine. There's a lot to be learned from working with a wide variety of creatives, and working in teams teaches us to better our own craft and become flexible enough to write whatever it is the market throws at us. I truly believe that coming from a Table Top Roleplaying Game (TTRPG) background, playing systems like Wizards of the Coast's famous Dungeons and Dragons, and the grittier World of Darkness system (most widely known for Vampire: The Masquerade) now owned by Paradox Interactive, and going so far with my group as to merge the two into an amalgamation of pure, horrifying, storytelling fun (Both as a Dungeon Master and a player) has helped to shape me as a creative who can work on a team, and ensure that we're all playing at the same table. For serial platforms such as WEBTOON's Yonder app, and Radish Fiction, we've produced stories with complex magical systems and wide bestiaries of mythological creatures, all fitting into cohesive universes and supporting the narratives we create. This is only possible when we work as a team to flesh out all the little details of what's exciting, what reads well on page, and what suits the world-building. This isn't just a brag, this is actionable advice for any creative teams struggling to work as, well, a team. Even if you're not interested in gathering in the office or on Zoom to try your hand at a Dungeons and Dragons session, it's helpful to have creative development sessions with your whole team, that way everyone gets to feel personally invested and passionate about the project. It's no secret that people work harder for things they're passionate about, and part of any good Creative Lead's job is to keep their teams passionate and excited for the projects they're working on. Remembering this is the key to turning your creative team into a Critical Success.

Our approach to developing outlines for stories has definitely changed over the last couple of years. We've tested and tested and as our Operations Lead, Cherise Papa, mentions in her post, the long form has proven to be most effective. Takes more time but that upfront work leads to a smoother writing and editing process for all involved. #outlining #contentdevelopment #ghostwriting #inscrive

    Manager & Editor of Fiction

My writing process has never been the same for each book. Sometimes I outline heavily; sometimes I just discover the world as I write and see where it takes me. Usually I’m somewhere in the middle, a strange balance of outline and discovery that shifts for what the story needs. Yet the outlining process at work has me rethinking my methods. As a background, David Farland’s Million Dollar Outlines changed how I viewed storytelling and outlining, and it shaped how I developmentally edit for work. Additionally, teaching the Fiction Writing series at Homeschool Connections these past two years has cemented what Farland taught. Character, motivation, conflict, and wonder (and the cost of magic) have shaped my stories and how I approach others’ stories I’m privileged to work on. For ghostwriters, outlines are imperative. It ensures the client approves of the full story before writing, it allows writers to understand the client’s vision, and it allows writers to work together smoothly when they’re working on the same book. But outlines can be different shapes and sizes, and over the years I’ve learned that the more detailed the outline, the better (for ghostwriting). A detailed outline leaves little room for questions for the clients. They can see the full story upfront, and they know exactly how characters will act and react to the challenges they face throughout the story. The setting details are clear, and we can ensure no promises are broken for the reader. But it isn’t just clients who like the longer outlines. Creatives do as well. Editors use them as series bibles to ensure continuity and that the writers followed the client-approved outlines. Multiple writers have shown appreciation toward the longer outlines, saying they aren’t spending as much time on ideation for each chapter, that they can simply write. If they can write a high-quality and engaging chapter faster, isn’t that better for everyone? Better for the writer, because it gives them more free time to work on their own work, spend time outside of work, or have more time to take on additional projects for higher incomes. Better for the client, because they can get a completed project faster. Everyone wins. Several writers have also said they’ve started using the detailed outline style we use at work on their own projects, and they've seen better and faster output there as well. And it’s encouraged me to try the same. So for my next personal project, I'll be putting a detailed outline to the test!

Our company, Inscrive, had the privilege of sponsoring a local youth Futsal team based out of Northern Portugal! The team is ran by the Christian youth organization "Força Jovem Universal" (Victory Youth Group or Youth Power Group in English speaking countries). The organization is present in over 100 countries and runs several projects for young people including drug and suicide awareness and prevention, sports activities, courses and workshops, and cultural and leisure activities such as cinema, music, and dance. The Porto-based team we sponsored came second place in a nation-wide tournament in a thrilling match!🥈🎉 It's an absolute honour for us to be able to support such projects and causes.
